To maintain full transparency and objectivity, I submit that I am neither a professional whistle operator nor do I have a degree in whistle engineering. While I am merely a whistle enthusiast, I was surprised by the reviews claiming the device lacked the capability of bowel-loosening volume. It is in fact quite the opposite as giving this fella a strong lungful of air could serve as a sonic regularity supplement. Just sit and blow.So yes, this whistle is VERY loud but let's still maintain objectivity. Hypothetically if you at a heavy metal band performance held at a foghorn convention and there was a low level jet flyover, you might not hear it... Might! Otherwise, chances are that this instrument will provide you with sufficient acoustic capability to acquire and maintain attention.So in closing, whistle does its job. It sounds good. It is loud. It has a good price. It has a good form factor and is in good condition. The lanyard has a good length and is strong, comfortable.

Whistle baby, whistle baby. Not only was it delivered very quickly, it fulfilled its purpose perfectly. I bought four to hand out to volunteer referees. It made them look and feel official. Almost immediately upon donning their whistles, you could notice a change in their countenance. They took on an immediate look of confidence and seemed to walk a little taller. They were now in charge and nobody was going to mess with them or their whistles. For the entire day, through countless soccer games, they remained firm in their calls and fair with their fouls. When it was over, they had earned the respect of all of those they had ruled over and to the last one they credited their shiny, classic whistles. When they were told they could keep them as a souvenir, two of them teared up. The others may have been a little misty, but they realized the truth was that their spit was all over the darn things and nobody else would ever want it.

This whistle is the Goldilocks of all whistles. Not too loud, but not too quiet. See, I bought this whistle so I can dress up like a referee at bars during the world cup and hand out yellow and red cards with my number on them to girls I found attractive. I would approach them by blowing the whistle to get their attention first. This whistle was the perfect amount of annoying.It also has a sturdy lace to go around your neck. Several times, when I would startle a female by blowing the whistle way to close to her ear, she would instinctively either go for the slap in the face, or rip off the whistle. Long story short, the whistle was never torn off.... although the manufacturer should consider an optional attachment which prevents face slaps.All in all, this has been the best world cup in 4 years. And this whistle was an integral part of the three girls who actually used my number.Hope this helps

This whistle looks, and works pretty good.I would not categorize it as LOUD ... MEDIUM-LOUD is more like it. It BLOWS pretty easy, giving you that classic old-school whistle sound, but it can be OVER-BLOWN. So, if you're intent on really letting it RIP, like calling in those unruly kids from the far-side of the school yard, or fending off the school-yard bully, you'll soon discover it will BOG-DOWN. It won't stop WHISTLING, but (after a certain point) it won't get any louder ... in fact, gets LOWER ... no big deal, it's 4-bucks?On the positive side ...1., It gives me a sense of authority (which NOTHING does like a shiny whistle), and apparently I've got some insecurity issues.2., I kind-of collect whistles, and wanted one less-than-ear-shattering, which this one is, and ...3., Women find a man with a whistle on a lanyard very sexy ... true story.

I'd like to say it's just me, but this is a terrible whistle... yes you heard right it's terrible. I wanted to discount the other reviews as such since so many people said it's good, but it's not. I wish I had listened to the minority. It's super fickle and you know what, it's unacceptable for a whistle. I use my emergency whistles which are way loud, but at least they work. I really should have returned it, but I didn't want to put any more effort.So the bottom line, is it a whistle: yes Will it work: yes Will it work well when you blow it just right: perhaps Will it work every time: NO Should you keep shopping for a different whistle: YESCan I believe I'm actually writing a review for a whistle, no this is messed up. Heed my warning..... or it could happen to you.

These whistles are GREAT! I purchased it for my daughter since she lives in the city and is often out late at night. They are good and loud enough to draw attention should she need help and be unable to use her cell phone. My mother has one too, just in case. I highly recommend them for all women, young and old, as part of a personal defense system when out and about. In this day and age, you just never know who or what is lurking around the next corner. A whistle this loud will bring attention and may be all one needs to ward off a potential attacker! I certainly feel better knowing she has it... and her little can of mace, when she is out late.

The whistle is functional and looks nice but it fell apart within the first hour of wearing it. Where the whistle was fastened to the lanyard, there is a very weak connection. Luckily I reaffixed the whistle with epoxy we had left over from another fix at the pool. If you purchase this whistle either be very gentle or be prepared for it to break in the first use.

Gave this to my six year old nephew for camping as an emergency whistle to keep around his neck. He was really hard on it -- he climbed trees with it and hiked with it and ran around doing kid things with it and even got walnuts stuck in it and it's still in good shape. CRS Whistles sent emails to let me know how to maintain the whistle too and clean it even (I didn't ask...it was a follow-up customer service thing that I think was great.)You definitely get quality for this whistle and it was a decent price.
