The Narrow Road to the Interior: Poems

I am learning the Zuihitsu form but now have to read Matsuo Basho's book of the same name as well as The Pillow Book by Sei Shonagon.....

Much like a mother's life, this book is full of opposing emotions contained in single moments, situations, conversations, whatever, all at once. It is as hard and as tough as it is gentle amd kind, as clever as it is vulnerable, as scholarly in thought as it is an honest emotional expression of a life in full bloom at the turn of the millennium.This book is said to be the first of the the form _zuihitsu_ written in English, and though I think that may be debatable, the value of the debate is in close reading and with any luck, interesting discussion of all of Hahn's amazing books and any others we can find called _zuihitsu_ in someone's MFA thesis.Whatever it is with respect to zuihitsu, it is extraordinary. It is beautiful, fascinating and brilliant prose poetry. I can't think of any reason to not love this book. Or not to write the author fan mail. The kind with a stamp. Noted and logged.Anyway, if you love to read and like prose poetry that is lovely and lyrical and all that poems should be and also with a narrative thread that's perfectly easy to follow, you will love this book. Hmmmm. I can't think who else you might be. Who else would you be? Cheers! And Kimiko Hahn, thanks for writing this wonderful book. I'll write a more detailed review at some point...

Liked condition. That author signed it and wrote comment to someone with that person's name makes me sad for the author and makes me wonder why person gave up the book.

I love this form of poetry that I just learned. Well worth the time and money!

Kimiko Hahn is a brilliant writer and this book is amazing! The book also came in great shape and in an appropriate amount of time. Highly recommend!

I had higher hopes. Beautiful language but I ended up not liking the author. There was an energy in the book that was dragging me into the dark. Didn’t finish.

Mixed, some poems are good and others are too autobiographical.
