The Bridge is a critically acclaimed and award winning Danish-Swedish co-produced crime drama series that has spawned multiple re-makes across the globe. Sofia Helin stars as the iconic Swedish police detective Saga Norén who is forced to work with Danish counterpart Martin Rohde (Kim Bodnia) when a body, cut in half at the waist, is discovered in the middle of the Øresund Bridge, which connects Copenhagen with Malmö, placed precisely on the border between the two countries. The socially-challenged Norén develops a close, if often awkward, bond with Rohde but has to make some tough decisions along the way that dramatically affect their relationship. In Season Three, Saga once again partners-up with a Danish officer, this time the emotionally troubled Henrik Sabroe (Thure Lindhardt), a man traumatised by loss. The series also focuses on Saga's downward spiralling mental state as she comes to the realisation that her colleagues are also beginning to question her abilities. In Season Four, aga and Henrik are brought together once again to solve a series of macabre and gruesome murders that start when a high-ranking government officer, the director general of the Immigration Service, is stoned to death. Increasingly, it appears that the murders have a personal connection with the Danish police team that Henrik is at the very centre of. In the midst of this fraught and complex case, Saga tries to make sense of her deepening relationship with Henrik and becomes determined to demonstrate how much he means to her by solving, once and for all, the deep mystery from his past that has been haunting him.

Fabulous
This is what weekend binge watching was invented for. Would highly recommend a fabulous series. Great characters, atmospheric and good story lines. Can't wait to watch it again in another couple of years.

Even better on the third viewing
My wife and I watched these when first shown by the BBC, and again when repeated a few years ago. Sofia Helen is a remarkable actress, and her performance is perfect. Note that series 1 and 2 only have 2 channel stereo sound, whereas series 3 and 4 have 5 channel sound. On the right equipment the difference is very clear.

A treat - our favourite Scandi drama
We began enjoying The Bridge when it first aired in Britain and followed further series as they came along. After a gap of a couple of years we’ve just watched them all again from start to finish, and it still packs a punch. Great characters, top-notch acting and sharp writing makes this our favourite of all the Scandi series. The Blu-ray version we have is on 9 discs (there are 13 in the DVD version) and they come in a single case with hinged mounts. Some other reviewers have noted loose discs but ours arrived with everything in place, and in perfect condition. There are some extras on the discs too – our favourite was the interview with Sofia Helin on the third series. The subtitles are all perfect and the only downside to the set is that there are trailers on the first disc of each series which unfortunately can’t be skipped over. Luckily our player remembers where we left off so we were able to play the first few seconds of the next episode before switching off, and the machine started up in exactly the right place next time. If you’ve seen it before then repeat viewing is a joy, and if you haven’t watched it yet then I’m jealous – you’re in for a treat.

Excellent Scandi Noir
It's difficult for me to say this - as a huge fan of Mankell's Wallander - but The Bridge is probably the best Scandinavian detective drama ever. What's more, the character of Saga Noren is one of the greatest creations in all of detective fiction. She is clearly somewhere on the autistic spectrum and socially awkward, but turns her weaknesses into strengths as she obsessively pursues the perpetrators. All four series are brilliantly written stories. They all have - what appear to be - parallel stories going on, aside from the main murder inquiry. But, of course, their relevance to the main story comes out eventually, although you will probably never guess how. The plots are fiendishly twisty with early assumptions (both the detectives' and the viewers') being blown out of the water from time to time. There are shocking moments, but then joyous laughs in the most unexpected places. The acting and the production values are of the highest quality and you will find yourself really caring about the lives and feelings of the characters. I was totally absorbed and even learned to tell the difference between the Swedish and Danish characters, by the way they spoke. I recommend this unreservedly to all fans of detective fiction.

As Good as it Gets
What an amazing series this was. From the very first episode, the characters shine and are memorable. Originally watched the four series on TV and on watching them once again, nothing has been lost in quality of production or, more importantly the actual drama from beginning to end.Saga is someone who obviously has personality/emotional dysfunctions which makes her character even more compelling to watch. The way the scripts have been written is so 'spot on' and the way each episode leaves you needing (yes needing) to watch the next one is simply brilliant. All four of the series stand out and it is difficult to choose which one I like the most - praise indeed. All I can say is, if you like something gripping that will hold your mind and at times leaves you feeling exhilarated then this is for you. I loved The Killing but for me this tops the lot. Oh yes, the way they have managed to get 5 episodes on each disc and still retain excellent quality is another great plus.BRILLIANT

Looks fine
This set arrived within the time frame suggested. The box is in perfect condition. As this is a Christmas present I have not been able to check the disc's but see no reason why they should be damaged.

Great Series but ........
Great series but DVD case is poor. Arrived in very good condition as expected by Prime. Several of the 13 discs inside had detached from their 'moorings' and those remaining were on a random mixture of the 8 pegs. I cannot understand the logic of a case that can hold 24 discs when there are only 13 discs which fit on 4 pegs! Its nearly half empty therefore too big, not fit for purpose and takes up more space on the shelf. Solution:- Buy separate series, pay more, use a tad more space but have 4 cases (easier to handle ,open the box and find the necessary disc among all it's attached cohabitants). Peace!

Good but..........
So, we bought this because of various reviews we had seen. Plots are quite involved and not bad but as we moved into series 3 and 4 there were more unnecessary full-frontal and sex scenes that had nothing to do with the stories. Saga was very good, but her portrayal of a person who has Asperger's was sometimes over the top in fact it was almost robotic. Sofia Helin who played Saga was really good in Arne a medieval story of a Knight Templar.

Great series of murder investigations
Each episode unfolds in twists and turns, with a hook at the end of each to make sure you'll keep watching.Real thriller. Violence is over the top, though.

Quite possibly the finest television series i've ever had the privelege to view.
This review is for The Bridge Swedish/Danish production aka: Bron/Broen and not the FX remake.I originally viewed this series on Hulu a couple of years back. Their rights expired recently and just as I was about to view the series for the second time. Rather than be at the mercy of constantly changing streaming rights that cause content to be available and then gone, I decided to purchase a British box set of all four seasons. This series has brilliant writing, acting, cinematography, production design, sound and direction. Sofia Helin is unbelievably excellent as Saga Noren ( to see how brilliant just watch Ms. Helin, the actress, being interviewed ) as are Kim Bodnia (Martin) and Thule Lindhardt (Henrik). With dense, detailed plot lines each season deals with the solving of a particular case that requires detectives from Malmo, Sweden and Copenhagen, Denmark - cities connected by the Oresund Bridge - to cooperate. Beside the case at hand this series deals with the lives and frailties of it's major characters and their search for the answers to their own lives mysteries. With 38 episodes spread over four seasons it is not possible, or desirable, to attempt a blow by blow account of the series. Suffice to say that this series does not contain television stars leaping away from explosions at their back as they shout "Go! Go! Go!". No one in the series has a cape, super powers or a secret identity. In short, this is seriously good television made by grownups, for grownups.
