Too Much Information for Me
This book is amazing but it isn't what I thought it would be. I was looking for a book about Superman. As a Smallville fan and as a mother of young boys I wanted a reference book that we could look at for quick and concise information about the Superman world. Something along the lines of what DK produces where it's mostly pictures with descriptions. This is so much more than that.It is way too in-depth for our needs and way too nerdy for us to reap much from the entries. So just know that this is a serious-Superman book. Quality wise and print wise it's a fantastic production, the material is just over our heads.

Whoa! This book is detailed
Amazing source book on the Last Son of Krypton and his worl, and the the people he shares it with. The authors did an excellent job of combining an referencing people, places, event and things from the (when it was published) character's 70 year history. They also do a very good job of referencing what took time during what period (Pre-Crisis, etc) in DC's comics continuity. Really makes the wordl of Superman come alive. A perfect addition to your comics reference shelf.

awesome Superman reference
this is a LOT of Superman information!over 500 pages covering everything from Abdul (a genie on pre-first crisis earth 1) to Lorra (a kryptonian goddess) to Zynthia (a blonde girl who once helped Superboy teach Lana Lang a leason about jealousy), and a whole lot in between!while i can't say i've read the entire thing, i thoroughly enjoy:- flipping to random pages and learning about the more obscure characters.- looking up Superman's interactions with other heroes (The Flash, Wonder Woman, Power Girl)- reading the histories of Superman's enemies (Lex Luthor, Braniac, Mr. Mxyzptlk, etc.)- looking at the 32 full color pages- loads of illustrations throughout the bookwe keep this on a bookshelf in the TV room.visitors seem to enjoy it as much as i do.

Does what it says on the cover
As the title says, this is an essential purchase for any Superman fan. This book is not merely an update of the classic Michael Fleischer encyclopedia (which only covered up to the mid-sixties) - it has been written in the wake of the various 'Crisis' events which redefined Superman's life story on more than one occasion. Confused about the various versions of Krypton which have been seen over the years? You'll find them explained in here. The book includes entries on just about every character who has appeared in at least two stories, from Superman's first appearance in 1938 right up to the end of the 'New Krypton' storyline in mid-2010. It shows how his relationship with Lois Lane has changed over the years (they're married now, in case you didn't know!) and how Lex Luthor went from being a red-headed criminal mastermind to President of the United States. It explains the various colours of Kryptonite, and the effects they have on different species. And much, much more. This is a fitting tribute to the very first costumed superhero - created, let's not forget, by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster - and contains everything you ever wanted to know about him. One word of advice - if you're looking for a particular entry, write it down! Otherwise as you leaf through the pages you'll spot something else which will distract you, and lead you off in a different direction, and you'll forget what you wanted to know in the first place!Oh, and while you're at it, check out the Batman and Wonder Woman encyclopedias too...
