ShimodaCore Unit Small for DSLR and Mirrorless Cameras (520-091)

Perfect addition to my medium mirrorles core unit.

This Core Unit is the right size to hold and protect a mirrorless camera and a couple of lenses with a few other photo necessities. It sits at the bottom of my Shimoda Action X50 backpack leaving enough space for backpacking gear: tent, sleeping bag + pad, clothes, food, stove + fuel, etc. That is what I was looking for, so I am pretty happy, at least for the time being!

Excellent quality, although rather expensive but there is nothing like it elsewhere. I was looking for "dividers" that did not fold under the weight of gear. This unit protects my camera with lens and is a joy to use in my Lowepro bag.

This is not a smaller equivalent to the medium cube. It is CONSIDERABLY less sturdy. I may end up using my medium one and taking out inserts to put stuff other packing inside it.

I bought 2 Small Core Units. You can configure your bag in many ways with this small size. Extremely useful in all occasions. Perfect fit in my Shimoda Explore 30.

Per the description: "The Small Core Unit is designed to hold a mirrorless or non-gripped DSLR body with a mounted lens up to 70-200mm 2.8."To fit a Canon 5D Mk III and 70-200mm f/2.8, you would have to: 1) remove the eyepiece from the body; 2) rotate the tripod mount vertically. Both of these should have been taken into account when designing this -- the ICU is about 1-2" too short.
