Beautiful!
Another beautiful Lani Taylor book - just what every reader who enjoyed the Smoke and Bone series and fell in love with Zuzana and Mic's love story wanted to know about that night.

Short, fun, easy read
Good fun read! Difficult to enjoy the pictures on a Kindle, but it’s a lovely story even without the pictures. Still recommend on a Kindle.

Breathtaking.
This novella was like a drop of dew in the middle of a flower shaped succulent. It was fresh, bright and left a huge smile on my face. It made me laugh and cry...sometimes all at once. Laini captured the true gritty essence of falling in love. I will be forever grateful for the gift of its memory.

Best love story - ever!!!
I read this book on Kindle when it was released, but when I saw there was an illustrated hardback available, I just had to have a copy. I am not normally a fan of romantic fiction, but I love this book. In fact, I think it is the best love story ever written – and it is fitting that it is written and illustrated by a husband and wife team. The illustrations are just perfect, and make what is already a wonderful book even better: a feast for the eyes, the mind, the senses and the emotions – chocolate cake and peacock footprints with “Eine kleine Nachtmusik” and just a smidgeon of magic.Zuzanna and Mik are not your typical romantic leads. They are both shy teenagers, who have not had the courage yet to speak to each other – uncertain if the other feels the same attraction. They are not defined by physical attributes, but by their talents (music and puppetry) and that they look like nice people, with whom you would want to spend the rest of your life.Zuzanna plans a treasure hunt for Mik, using her puppets as clues, with herself as the prize. Will Mik play along? Not only that, but he adds special features all of his own.Zuzanna and Mik narrate alternating chapters. Their fears, hopes, wonder and surprise tumble together, leaping off the pages. You perch excitedly and expectantly on the side-lines willing them along. How could anyone not fall immediately and forever in love with the person who designs or elaborates on such an amazing first date? “Cake. As subject changes go, it’s a good one. I hesitate for the tiniest instant, though, because my brain gets on this hamster wheel of concern over the likelihood of imminent kissing. To eat or not to eat, that is the question: whether ‘tis Nobler in the stomach to suffer the Slings and Arrows of outrageous Hunger (while keeping mouthparts in pristine kissing condition) or to take Spoon against a Slice of cake, and – ”This book is for everyone who has ever loved, or would ever want to love, or really for anyone who has even a scintilla of emotion in their body. I challenge you not to be swept up and away by this perfect tale. The story is an offshoot of Laini Taylor’s “Daughter of Smoke and Bone” trilogy, but could be read as a standalone.
