Great account of the Powder River Expedition of 1865!
This book is an excellent account of an early military expedition into the Powder River country. It is a great companion book to "Patrick Conner's War" written by the same author about another column of that same expedition which took place in 1865.

Enjoyed the book
I enjoyed the book. It is a step by step narrative of Col. Nelson Cole's arm of the Powder River Expedition. You kind of feel like you are there with the troops--the constant riding, marching, mud, heat, cold, quicksand, hunger, fear, etc. I had ancestors with Co. B, 2nd Missouri Light Artillery so it was interesting to read what they went through and I think it was kind of a miracle they made it back home. They were only 19 and 17 years old.

Solved Life's Mysteries
This book is the best yet on the Cole Expedition, which was on our ranch and names the prominent Terret Buttes, which reminded them and passers by today, of a medieval castle. Thanks to David E. Wagner, his research is the highlight of my history hungry sons school year.
