great book
This is a nice collection of work by Kuniyoshi and basically as described. To give a little more information, the book could be described as being broken down into 4 sections: 1) a short foreword, amounting to a little more than a full page of text; 2) "108 Popular Heroes of the Suikoden" in its entirety, 74 prints; 3) "Selected Warrior Portraits" which is an additonal 70+ pages of combat pictures; and 4) "List of Illustrations", which is comprised of small thumbnails of all the previous pictures with their title and date printed below them. A lot of prints also have additional (in addition to title/artist/date) Japanese text, which isn't translated, and unless you have Japanese family or know someone who knows Japanese, the "list of illustrations" will be appreciated as you can typically pull a character's name from the title and do some research on them or the print via web. Usually this additional text is just a little backstory or description of what's happening in the depicted scene. As other reviewers pointed out about other books in this series, some of the pictures are somewhat grainy as they have been enlarged, however seeing as these are full page images of nearly 200 year old prints, I'm not sure what they would expect and all of the art is still perfectly visible and beautiful. As you can figure out by the break down, 99% of this book are pictures, you aren't going to find a comprehensive biography of Kuniyoshi, nor any real explanation of the prints or the characters involved in them. All in all, I love the book and would recommend it to anyone who likes this kind of art.

Not bad for the price.
Not a bad book. Contains allot of images that are good for reference. Allot of the scans are low quality and cropped, so you can see the entire print. Still happy I bought this book.
