Sure does delay watering, but need rain delay notifications
This system works. For installation, make sure you remove batteries and then install the sensor to the back on the rain cloud valve controller. This way, it shows up on the app. Don’t expect the sensor to show (green outline) as soon as you connect it to the Rain Cloud valve controller without actually removing the batteries, if you are already running the valve controller and you want to add the sensor later. In summary, for the sensor to show up in the smartphone app, you will actually need to remove the battery first. After you see the sensor in the app, make sure the sensor is in clear line of sight. Also, insert the sensor completely into the soil. Don’t hammer to force it in, if your soil is hard. After all this, based on the moisture setting, the sensor will not activate the valve to open if there is sufficient moisture in the soil. Don’t expect the app to say the watering has been delayed due to the signal from the sensor. Now the review: the app works, the system works and the sensor works. The only gripe, however, is that the app needs to let the user know that the sensor triggered the valve controller to delay watering, if and when the moisture level is more than the setting on the sensor (one, two or three drops). We have no way of telling if the watering was delayed. Rachio does this but not Melnor, why? Therefore, this sensor, Melnor Rain Cloud and the App gets only 4 stars!!!Edit1: there is a small icon in the app resembling a drop of water. This is absent when the sensor triggers a delay in watering! Great!! However, a notification or ability to do IFTTT would be great.Edit2: We had rain possibly from Hurricane Harvey in DFW (and thankfully not as much as it was in Houston) and the sensor triggered a delay at “three drop” setting. I am happy it worked and I did not have to delay watering manually.Again, a rain delay notification to my iPhone would be a feature request at this point. Thanks!

Didn’t work for long.
Batteries ran out almost immediately. Had it set up for a 10 day trip and when I got back it was out of batteries.

Make sure you remove the rain cloud batteries after plugging it in or it won’t work.
Hooking it up is not easily defined. You have to hook up the adapter, remove the batteries from the RainCloud and then put the batteries in. Once connected, the icon on the rain cloud will turn green. No notifications when it does work, it just doesn’t water if it detects moisture. So far, it has saved me times from watering unnecessarily.

Are you an introvert like me? Then you need this!
A great way to prevent over watering and under watering. I love technology, and I love automation. This device will be a perfect fit for anyone wanting to setup an irrigation system with the Melnor water timers. It reaches up to 200 feet with line of sight between sensor and receiver, but it can be out of line of sight at shorter distances. I highly recommend this if you want to make sure your yard and flowers or even garden stays well watered in the summer. Especially if you want to run off for a camping weekend, or take a week vacation. Don't have to invite the neighbors into your home to water your stuff, and then owe them a favor. Just relax knowing no one is stealing your tools, lawnmower, hoses, or snooping through your stuff. Peace of Mind.

Do not buy if using with Melnor RainCloud
I purchased this rain delay sensor to use with the Melnor RAINCLOUD Internet Controlled Smart 4 Valve Garden Watering Irrigation Timer (1 Pack). I currently use Melnor's HydroLogic water timers (along with the wired version of the rain delay sensors that work with that product) with great success, but wanted to upgrade my timers to the RainCloud product for greater control and flexibility. This moisture sensor doesn't work with the RainCloud product at all. RainCloud recognizes that the moisture sensor is connected, but it doesn't activate the rain delay on the timer at all. I even attempted to place the moisture sensor in a potted plant and poured a pitcher full of water directly into the pot until the water overflowed. Even then, the rain sensor didn't detect the water and failed to shut off the RainCloud timer.Melnor originally created this sensor to accompany its older 4-zone AquaTimer. When they came out with the RainCloud timer they said this sensor (instead of the newer wired sensor that accompanies their HydroLogic timers) would be compatible. I'm beginning to wonder if Melnor even bothered to test to make sure this sensor worked with their fancy new timer. I'll be returning this rain sensor and will also likely be returning the RainCloud timer. It's too bad. If this sensor actually worked, it would have been the perfect worry-free watering solution.

It works somehow. A lot of guesswork in setup ...
It works somehow. A lot of guesswork in setup - no very clear instructions from manufactirer for wi-fi timers (could be found on Melnor's website).I was able to make it work, but the problem is - if you set it up with Melnor Raincloud Wi-Fi timer for manual rain delay as "sensor",timer starts watering at the scheduled time but after couple of minutes - as soon as the ground is a little bit wet - this sensor stops timer from watering as it was set up (e.g. timer waters for 3 minutes instead of 20 - as was set up).As a result of it, plants and grass don't receive enough water. And that's not how I expected it to work.I would think that sensor should prevent watering when the ground is wet enough before timer starts watering, but not in the middle of it.This is the problem that should be fixed by Melnor.P.S. Maybe it is not as much problem of this sensor as of Melnor timer - I am not sure how the company made the connection between two of them work

Water $aver
I've bought the Melnor 3280 4 port about a year ago. And I would have my lawn watered every couple days. Living in the Chicago area we were getting lots of rain in a short time period. When I would be leaving my house just after the rain stopped, the timer just turned on to water the lawn. What a waste ... I've read about this sensor but the cost was little high. Amazon was the best price. So far its working like a champ. And I'm being green while using it. (And the lawn is too) Would recommend if you have the Melnor 3280.

Doesn't work at all, have to reseed the whole lawn because of it.
Don't buy as it doesn't work, bought this to keep my lawn watered when I am away for 2 weeks and it didn't water once. Being a newly seeded lawn I put the setting to MAX (3 water drops on the dial), made sure the timer (set to water every 6 hours) is set to auto and has a (direct line of sight) connection to this sensor. Everything appears to be working but the ground is practically cracking from dryness and it still doesn't water. Very disappointed and now I have to re-seed my lawn

Ok product
Not always working but when it works, it is a good system...it is just really hard to find out if the battry is still working well or not plus it is like a surprise when it is pariing with the system...
