Received the updated version with the SSD using Phison E12. It is blazing fast, even faster than the the built-in SSD in my Macbook Pro 2017, doing 2200+ MB/s read and 1600+ MB/s write. (see screenshot). Having read some reviews that reported great results, I tried replacing the SSD with a newer and supposedly faster ADATA SX8200 Pro 1TB. Benchmark results were really disappointing though -- only 1600+ MB/s read and 1200+ MB/s write. Emailed TEKQ support asking if this is normal behaviour, but they did not reply to my enquiries, else I would have given 5 stars..

Fantastic little external drive. This is my second purchase (first was a 980Gb model).I get sustained speeds of 1.8GBps write and 2.4GBps read, almost the same speed as my internal SSD on my iMac Pro.The drive is bus powered, making it easy to plug in and very portable.I have literally booted up my iMac Pro directly for the drive and the speed was comparable with booting from my internal SSD.

The original SSD has 1174 MB/s write and 2066.8 MB/s read. When I replaced the internal chip with Samsung 970 pro 1T SSD, the speed is 1940.1 MB/s write and 2560.6 MB/s read. I'm very satisfied with the combination. I put the original SSD chip into a USB 3.1 enclosure. The speed is 912.7 MB/s write and 936.8 MB/s read. I costed a reasonable price for a two decent SSDs. Nice!

Very fast, ideal for expanding storage to Macs. One thing to note is that the case is fixed with glue instead of screws, so you cannot replace a bigger SSD in the future.

Works great. I'm using this with a thunderbolt 3 raid box converted into thunderbolt 2 imac 2014. I can't review the top speeds over thunderbolt 3, but it works at 1100 /1300 over thundebolt 2. This doesn't work with only a thunderbolt 2 adapter. It will work if it's chained from a powered thunderbot 3 device. The best selling point is the detachable cable. This allows for longer cables or future technology.

I get about 1900 MB/sec read and 1450 MB/sec write on several Mac models. Fast enough for most uses but falls short of the theoretical 2800 MB/sec interface speed for Thunderbolt 3.

I'm using it as the primary boot drive on my iMac and it is working so much better then the fusion drive which is now used for time machine.

Seemed to be great for all of a few hours. However, less than 3 hours after receiving the drive it failed. Disappeared from my computer screen (2018 Macbook Pro) and could not be found. The little light was out also.Don't know if it was the cable or the drive, but lacking another Thunderbolt cable I just returned it to Amazon. So great idea but flawed execution. This is the first SSD I have ever had actually die. And it died a too-early death to warrant another chance.

This is by far the best drive I have ever owned. It is incredibly fast -- easily a Giga Byte per second -- over a cable -- extraordinary, the first thunderbolt drive that (for me ) really yields TB performance. The design of the drive itself is lovely and efficiently dissipates the heat while making the warm drive pleasant to handle. Even the clear bold labelling on the cable is a cut above. Obviously designed and built by perfectionists.

Have yet been able to get it to runIt needs a powered usb 3 socket and there is no external power option so it is really limited as to which machine you can use it with
