Prince Martin and the Dragons: A Classic Adventure Book About a Boy, a Knight, & the True Meaning of Loyalty (The Prince Martin Epic: Classic ... develop virtue - and turn boys into readers)

The most epic tome yet!
This is a children’s book, but as an adult, I will give it an adult review, though it would be ideal for a young child, especially in teaching lessons of valor, bravery, courage and sacrifice. To this reader there are adult themes that recall J.R.R. Tolkien, the Book of Revelations, and World War II, but these are presented on a human level for a child of any age. In this third installment of the series, the reader familiar with the past two books will immediately recognize the more epic tone here, both in the rhythmic narrative, and the legendary, yet beautifully crafted illustrations of the book. Our protagonist is once again Prince Martin, whose parents are the King and Queen of The West. When they hear the Dragons are terrorizing the realm, they call a council, where it is relayed that the last time the Dragons awoke 2000 years ago, they laid waste to the Elves who lived at that time. These Dragons had never been defeated, as their fire-breathing breath had no rival. But the Elves were resourceful and unified in their effort to destroy the Dragons, pulling together to learn the art of alchemy and metallurgy, which resulted in their crafting a weapon that would finally be effective against the Dragons’ fire.Hearing of all this, the good King and charitable Queen decided the best way to battle these Dragons today was to locate the weapons created by the Elves, which had apparently been hidden away in caves in the cold mountains. All the heroes of the realm, including our valiant Prince Martin and gruffy, but courageous Sir Ray, were summoned in this “darkest of hours.” Churchill anyone? Now I won’t spoil the story to describe the weapon, how the battle was fought or who was the victor. I will only say that the moral of this story is that great battles against evil can only be a success where there is true life-giving self-sacrifice, in both the here and now and in the generations that precede us, in small details of love, and in our use of technology, knowledge, and resourcefulness.War, evil, genocide, and elimination of good and beautiful virtue will always be attempted by someone, whether it be a satanic figure, a political leader, or a great fire-breathing dragon. We must decide to fight back! Bravery is not something we are born with, but “something we choose.”

~~ Is there any hope of defeating the dastardly dragons? ~~
Two dragons have come to terrorize the shepherds and their sheep. In the meantime the king has been hearing rumors regarding these dastardly dragons. Their names are Mortis and Ardoris. They only awaken every 2,000 years and this is the year! The wizard tells the people gathered about some special weapons. The king orders Prince Martin, Sir Ray and friends to go find the shield and silvery spear. Who else do the two enlist? BTW Sir Ray is not who you might imagine. He is a dog! The two dragons are filled with evil intent with never any remorse. It is time to end their rampaging but will Prince Martin and his crew succeed? Will Sir Ray survive his encounter with one of the dragons? This, the third book in the series, is a stand alone story but you'll really want to start at the beginning if you have not already done so. FANTASTIC series! Written in rhyme but not set out like poetry. GREAT ending. I, as an adult, have read this entire fantasy series and you can pass them onto your kids with no fear of them reading something they shouldn't. Chivalry is not dead. Thanks, Liz

If you want your boys (and girls!) to be inspired by...
...courage and adventure, this is a series you can't miss out on! I'm a firm believer in quality books, not just for toddlers, but also for budding readers. This is the perfect series to instill good qualities in your elementary age children while inspiring them to read!Mystery, danger, companionship and talking animals are all brought to life once again in Prince Martin and the Dragons, not to mention brightly colored illustrations that are surprisingly modern. Combined with the familiar bravery of Martin and his pals, their respectful mannerisms and courage to help those in need, and the lyrical flow of this adventure, these are sure to win over a reluctant reader (or a tired parent who has to read one more book)! We've read the first 2 books in the series multiple times and now the addition of dragons in this 3rd book only further solidifies my 5-year-old's obsession with everything Prince Martin. We also have a 4 and 2 year old that love to listen in when I read these aloud as well as 2 nephews (ages 7 & 9) so it's practically a guarantee that these will entertain for many years! We've only bought the Kindle versions of this series and there have been no errors in the publications. Great quality and we look forward to investing in the real books soon.

Excellent reading for boys & their grandmas
I am always looking for quality books to read to my grandchildren that incorporate good values and important lessons. The Prince Martin series fits the bill. My grandsons ages 5 & 7 want each book read all in one sitting (they rarely sit still for anything) and are glued to my side until the last page is turned. My grandaughter age 9 grabs them to read as soon as she arrives. The boys love the battles and they all love the bravery, loyalty & compassion of the Prince & his friends. I love the rhyming verse all the way through the book (I don't know how he does it!), and the vocabulary is just challenging enough, I encourage them to look it up when they hear a new word. (I have learned a few new words also.) Prince Martin & the Dragons does not disappoint. The good characters push themselves hard for the sake of others, the dragons are intelligent and truly terrible, and the ending has a couple surprises. We loved books 1, 2 & 3, and look forward to the author's next book. Especially pleasing to parents: Prince Martin sets a good example as he is respectful & obedient toward his parents, the King & Queen of the West.
