Ontario Knife Company 8688 SP24 USN-1 Survival Knife 5" Combo Blade, Kraton Handle

This is a solid knife for the money, and it can literally save your life. Just make sure to sharpen it upon arrival, including the gut hook. The blade does everything you need in a survival situation. The grip and guard mean you can grip it safely, even with cold hands.

More of a survival tool than a knife.

It's a great knife for the price, which is consistent with other Ontario products. My complaints below are design related, but I had no issues with the quality of the blade considering the price.The blade needed some honing, but nothing major. The saw blade is probably best used on thin aluminum; not terrible useful on wood. The gut hook is narrow and set deep into the thickest part of the blade, making it entirely useless for skinning or seatbelt cutting (my two intended uses), as there is almost no way of getting a shallow enough angle to adequately cut through either.I might recommend their similarly priced SP-6 instead, and (cold) grinding your desired features into it.

Hole at handle-base should have a hole going through from one side to the other for attaching/threading the shoelace-style strap through... small indents on both sides as if they just forgot to finish mine... i guess I could just make-shift tie it around the bottom of the handle-base nice & tight and hope that works. Other than that, seems to be a good quality knife... SUPER sharp.

Amazing blade. The handle melts in your hand. Feels very natural movement wise. Blade is strong and avle to be polished to a razor sharp edge

Did not come with the hole for the landyard as pictured and discprition clearly stated. Also as you can see in the pictures it came out of the box already rusting on the pommel. Pretty disappointed but I leave for the field tomorrow so I'm kinda stuck.
