We loved the original story, so this was a perfect gift for my not so young reader! She's 30+ now, but remembers the story and now knows the behind the scenes details. So glad I found this book!

The Paper Bag Princess 25th Anniversary Edition is two gifts in one as it provides the story behind the story as well as the wonderful picture book itself. Every time I read the book I remember why it is my favorite book to give to girls, but it was an early book used to introduced my sons to the idea that gender doesn't matter when it comes to doing the right thing.

This is just a classic -- I read this to my daughters when they were little girls, and they loved it. I especially appreciated that this story instilled the concept of intelligence and independence in girls so many years ago. I even bought a copy for myself once my daughters grew up and moved away!

I know this sounds trite, but I rarely leave reviews. Given that this is my all-time favorite childhood book, I feel it's necessary.As a 30-something that grew up with her mom and grandma reading her this book, and idolizing Elizabeth's fierce independence, I was absolutely delighted to see this edition. I bought it right away and love that it tells the 'story behind the story' (as well as the story).I would NOT recommend this edition to a child, because they frankly won't enjoy it (the story is buried in the middle). If that is your goal, go with the regular edition (note, I give the regular edition to all my friends' kids at their ~3rd birthday and it's always a favorite). But if you are like me, a 30-something that grew up loving Elizabeth and her cunning ways, this is a must-add to your library.

This edition is a collector's edition and not one to be bought for someone who just wants to read the story. The story, however, is a wonderful tale for modern girls -- my college roommate sent it to me for a birthday gift about 15 years ago, and I have enjoyed reading it many times since then. This is a story about a Princess who is "going to marry" a Prince that she kind of likes; then one day, a dragon burns the Palace down and steals the Prince (maybe he was nearsighted?). The Princess who stands in the ruins in her own fair skin, can only find a large paper bag for clothing, but she dons it and hurries off to save the Prince; and she does so by very clever flattery and sharp, quick thinking. Once the Dragon has collapsed in exhaustion, she picks the lock and there's the Prince. But, in typical Male Chauvanist fashion, Prince Ronald sneers at her because she is dirty and bedraggled and wearing a paper bag; he tells her to go clean up and put on a decent dress and come back. Instead, she gives him a polite but sharp reply about how pretty his clothes are and how nice he looks, but finishes, "But you are a jerk." And, as she skips back down the road, we are told "They Didn't Get Married." My college roommate sent me this book because that's pretty much the way my last and final engagement ended! I am a happy spinster and I hope this Princess is too.

If you believe in Fairy Tale endings, this is not the book for you. If you believe that girls can be independent thinkers and figure things out by themselves, I highly recommend you purchase this book for a young girl.I bought this book for my daughter many years ago and it was one of my favorites! I just purchased this for her Best Friend who is expecting a baby girl.Hope they both love it as much as we did!

As a teacher I always loved this story, and so did my students. The extra information in this book was fun for an adult or older child to read.
