I feed my mini dachshunds a mostly raw diet, with some cooked rice, lightly steamed veggies, whole milk yogurt, eggs and fish. But, I needed a “fill in” for times when I can’t get to the stove, or scheduling conflicts. Yes, there are luxury dog foods on the market—Castor and Pollux is one of the best, at a reasonable price—but I’m on a very tight budget, yet still wanted great quality. I also needed something my two varmints wouldn’t get fat on, as Dachsies are notorious for getting fat which is disastrous for their backs. They will wolf anything edible in a heartbeat, and waddle around, their bellies stretched to breaking, looking for another tasty morsel!This Pedigree brand has been a great solution. My dogs love it, they don’t over eat, it has quality ingredients, and a super reasonable price. The best way to tell if your dog is getting the right nutrition is the output of waste. If they have large amounts of stool, their bodies aren’t absorbing enough nutrients, which largely aren’t there in many commercial dog foods. If the food is full of filler ingredients, you’ll get large stools and large amounts—like needing to potty 2-3x as often as normal.I’m extremely picky about what my dogs eat, and this one isn’t full of fillers and additives.
