Product description Springfield,Rick ~ Karma .com Rick Springfield made pretty good pop-rock radio fodder in his early-'80s heyday; "Jessie's Girl," "I've Done Everything for You," and "Love Is Alright Tonight" are hard to argue with now, even if you didn't have much use for them when they were hits. Unfortunately, this former General Hospital star has happened upon enlightenment and feels the need to share it with the world. True feeling seems to lie behind "It's Always Something" (a tribute not to Gilda Radner, but to Springfield's late father), "Act of Faith," and the rest, but the shiny, slightly dated production and soap-ready emoting make Karma less interesting than a thrift-store copy of Working Class Dog. --Rickey Wright

His best album...by far
I'm probably in the minority among fans of Rick Springfield--- I really didn't like Rick's stuff before 1985. "Jessie's Girl" and "Don't Talk to Strangers" are perfectly nice songs, but they aren't attempts at artistic expression. Rick started to change this in 1985 with "Tao." Even as a kid, I was struck by the thoughtful lyrics...and almost 30 years later, this album still stands as a good commentary on the 80's and on the journey of a man trying to find meaning within it. "Rock of Life" was a worthy follow-up...and then nothing worthwhile for a decade ("Sahara Snow"....no thanks). Then came Karma. This album contains a bunch of tracks that are catchy, but they are actually that of a mature man expressing himself thoughtfully, not just a soap start trying to get the girls to drop their panties. The songs are accessible, but thoughtful...on the realities of love, on the continued search for meaning in the face of our own mortality, and on religion.Highlights include the enjoyable "It's Always Something," "Beautiful Prize," "Ordinary Girl." Even the more pensive songs (such as "Karma" and "Shock to My System") are easy to sing along with. "Free" is a beautiful love song, both lyrically and via sound. "In Veronica's Head" and "Beautiful Prize" deserve multiple listens. On first play, you might ignore these tracks...don't do it. These are among Rick's best compositions---considering the perspective of two women unsatisfied in their lives and relationships. This is the kind of art he couldn't have attempted (and probably wouldn't have ever considered) back in the early 80's.If you appreciated "Tao," or "Rock of Life," you've got to check this album out. You'll never really know Rick Springfield without doing so.

Love this album!
Excellent album before he got popular again. He tapped into inner thoughts and beliefs. Not so rock edged...jazzy and contemporary. It is one of my favorite albums of his...yet he never performs any of the songs live!

One of my Favorite Albums of all-time
The writing, music, and singing in this albums are simply superb. It's a different sound that you will be used to if you are a classic Rick Springfield fan, but it will grow on you if you give it a chance. It's almost got a country twang in some songs, but it just as much rock and roll and you expect from Springfield. I highly suggest you add this to your collection. You will NOT be disappointed.

Rick's best effort yet!
This is a wonderful CD, and a gotta-have-it purchase for anyone who ever loved Rick before! I've always personally identified with most of his lyrics; by that I mean it's always felt like I knew just what he was feeling when he wrote the songs. His music is personal. Involved. He invests a lot of himself in every song, and that really comes across. "Free" is my favorite, with serious potential for radio airplay, and I hope to God Barbara knows how lucky she is to have snagged that man!

A real grower........
This release by Rick Springfield has, in many ways, a lot in common with "Tao". There`s an emotional deepness and spirituality that comes across in this collection of songs - maybe not surprising as he hadn`t released anything for almost a decade after going through a tough time. "Karma" really gets inside your head and just gets better every time you play it. Tracks such as "Shock To My System", "Free", "Prayer", "Ordinary Girl" and - my personal favourite - "White Room" are real quality. The album - as a whole - is quite laid-back in feel but the strength of the songs shine through. If you are a RS fan and like "Tao", "Living In Oz" or "Rock Of Life", you`ll certainly dig this! A great one to play in the car....
