Riveting Story of the West
Imagine Mark Twain telling rollicking cowboy stories, or Holden Caulfield talking about growing up as an orphan in depression-era Arizona. Tom Fisk is a born story-teller, and this tongue-in-cheek memoir is funny, heart-breaking, and impossible to put down. Whether you believe all his stories word for word, or take some of them with a grain of salt, it doesn't really matter. This is one of the most entertaining books I've ever read, and it deserves to be far better known. With luck, some day it will be.

Great book!
This is a great book that was written by a local horseshoer. My current horseshoer told me that Tom Fisk used to tell him the same stories when he was apprenticing under him years ago. He thought they were just 'tall tales' until he saw the same stories in the book! Great read, particularily if you have always liked old westerns.

Amazingly True Story
I chose that rating because I grew up on cattle ranches and I knew that man as an adult. His path to adulthood w/o parents, essentially, always revealed a good soul-a really great story with incredible almost unbelievable happenings!

He is going to love this book
I just met Tom today through a chance encounter. When I mentioned I was born in West Texas, he lit up. I ended up spending almost an hour visiting with him on his porch. Very interesting and humble man. Honestly, I just got home with the book, so I haven't read it, but based on my brief time with him and his story telling ability, I am really looking forward to reading it. Got a copy for my father too. He is about Tom's age and also from West Texas. He is going to love this book. They may have even crossed paths back in the early 1940's.

The Gringo Kid
This is an excellent book. It is exciting, interesting, and funny. I found myself laughing outloud at the mule. Tom is a true living legend and reading about his adventures was so much fun. I wish the book had been longer. Hope they get The Rescue made into a movie. This book is so worth reading just to get to know about Tom.

True Life adventure at it's best!
The book caught and held my interest. Tom obviously has nine lives to have lived through the adventures that he experienced. The book is written like it is being told by a great storyteller; something that Tom definetly is. I would reccomend this book to anyone who enjoys reading about the untamed southwest. The fact that it is based on Tom's life makes it even the more interesting.

Great fairy tale
Tom always had a vivid imagination and any reader will find this book interesting. Tom Fisk's narration describing his deeds would put the Cisco Kid or any other fictitous kid to shame.
