I've seen these things used on cooking shows, etc., and decided to buy one for myself. I was using a little dish to put my pink himalayian salt in, but found that it tended to clump on humid days. So I got this, and I do love it. It keeps my salt dry and no clumping.The one thing that really bothered me was the smell of it when it arrived. It had a very strong odor and I wasn't quite sure if that was a toxic smell or the smell of the wood. I just know it was really strong. I washed it and dried it, then let it sit out with the top open for several days before using it. After filling it, the smell did disappear, but I'm assuming the salt absorbed the odor. I marked it down one star for the odor.. I'm trying to remove toxins from my life, so I was really kind of iffy on this at first. But like I said, the smell is now gone, and it does keep the salt fresh, dry and clump free.

For several years I've kept a glass jar on my countertop next to the stove with kosher salt in it so I can add salt while cooking. The jar was a pimento jar in its former life, and worked well enough before we remodeled the kitchen. I just couldn't bring myself to put the old pimento jar on the new granite countertops. When I searched salt boxes I found this one that was reasonably priced compared to others so I ordered it. It looks great on the countertop and will probably be a one-handed operation once the mechanism loosens up with use. Of course, the old pimento jar took two hands, so that wasn't a real issue for me. The workmanship looks good, and there is a metal inset on the lid that allows me to see where the hinge is, so it's easy to use. I'm looking forward to using it.

This is a very cute yet functional salt cellar. I love that the lid just smoothly swivels open and shut, you're never losing it and it always shuts perfectly. I also appreciate how much storage it offers, it can hold a pretty good amount of salt. It also makes it very easy to scoop out whatever amount you want with your measuring spoons. The only thing I didn't love was that the wood tone is a little off from what the photo shows. There's a slight orange-ish stain to it (it's not as yellow/beige). The color/tone is probably only something I would notice since I'm pretty focused on that kind of thing, and even then it wasn't a deal breaker. It is still nice looking!

My partner's mom gifted me a container that looks a lot likethis that I love. I was hoping this container would be comparable but sadly no.:(It's a bit larger than my original, feels more plsticky and sticks when opening. The swivel definitely doesn't feel as smooth. For the price it's okay but hoped it'd be nicer than it is.

Slightly larger than comparable cellars, but still easily fits with spices, while holding a good amount of salt. The grain and feel of the wood is exceptional—smooth and nicely grained with swivel lid that fits perfectly. Some others have mentioned an oder but there was absolutely no smell when opened. Very lovely product that I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. As a matter of fact, I plan to include it with future bridal shower gifts!

Pros: Item looks good, tight seal so salt doesn’t get damp in humid weather.Con: Must hold base with one hand and swing open the Lid with other which is inconvient while cooking. Someone with man-hands could probably do it with only one!

I liked this salt cellar the moment I opened the shipping package. I liked the way it presented upon opening. I had purchased a large size of salt from Costo or Sam's, and the package got wet so I needed something better than the jar I was using. This lovely container with it swivel lid makes it easy to get a pinch of salt or a spoonful, depending on what is needed. The container has a small footprint, no larger than the regular container of salt, and looks great on my counter or table. Cost-effective, too. Love it!
