As the medieval era moved into the Renaissance period Henry Percy known as “Hotspur” was one of history’s most famous knights. For his acts of valor and duty to the king he received substantial marks of royal favor in the form of grants and appointments. He earned his name by his Scottish enemies in recognition of the diligence with which he patrolled the border between England and Scotland. As an infamous knight you need a mighty sword at your side and the sword you see here is mighty in size and function. This impressive weapon is constructed from EN45 carbon steel with a 4.45 mm thickness and is battle ready. The blade is a whopping 43 inches in length with the point of balance being 5 inches from the steel guard. The double handed hilt is constructed of wood that has been leather wrapped and hand sewn. A scent stopper pommel is peened making this a functional full tang sword. The quillions are slightly turned downward in a simple design. A fuller runs almost three quarters down the blade. It is forged in a spring style so that damaging blows will move fluid with the wielder as to not bend or crack the blade. This flexibility of the blade imposes maximum damage without sacrificing the integrity if the overall piece. This magnificent sword is battle ready and ready to battle. Total junk!
I’m a HEMA enthusiast and have about 25 swords ranging from $50-$1200. I like to buy cheap basic swords and refinish them. I chose this one because it’s 58”(the size I need), the 5” balance point and steel quality. It weighs 5 pounds exactly.Don’t buy this sword unless your willing to finish the blade, or use it for practice (if I bought it for a practice weapon I would give it 3 stars because of the low cost). It has a distal taper, but no profile taper, so it cannot be easily sharpened. Basically it’s a flat bar with a fuller. The blade has a noticeable bend, lots of gouges and grinder marks on the guard(15 inch). The leather wrapped handle is the prettiest part of the sword. It feels tight, nothing lose. The pommel is definitely peened and looks like my 8th grade metal shop class quality. I briefly tried to take the bend out of the blade, this blade is not tempered and was easily bent the opposite way. Also its peen is large, which indicates a lot of metal in the handle, true heavy full tang.If it had a profile taper I would have given it 2 stars. Don’t expect to sharpen this blade. It’s very sloppy workmanship. There are much better swords in this price range elsewhere. The blade was sticking out of the box when it arrived, but no damage. It arrived 1 day early.

Not 'battle ready'?
Clearly this sword is not the one described in this posting. This sword has a distinctive taper an articulated fuller and appears to be tapered, along the left and right edges as a blade ought to be. Its balance point is reasonable, I'm not sure we're describing the same sword (-like object, if you will). please get back to me with any comments. Granted that this SLO is not fit for combat of any sort, it's still a good wall hanger and is tapered at all of the right points.Could there be more than one outfit producing the swords in question, one capable of delivering well-made SLOs, another less capable?

Great for costumes.
The sword was really cool and even tho I got it on accident it made an amazing gift.

I love the craftsmanship
I love the craftsmanship, can clearly see it was hand forged. It is full tang which is awesome! It was however shipped without an edge.

Great Practice or Stage Combat Sword
This is a great stage combat or practice sword at a great price. If you want to spar, it's too big and heavy, unless you're really controlled and wear a lot of protective gear. If you want to cut, the blade is dull and thick to the edge. It'll take a lot of grinding to sharpen it. It you want a wall l hanger, they come a lot cheaper. I wanted a Meyer practice sword that I can target practice whiffle balls and get the body motions correct with and not hurt anything or myself so I'm happy. YOu can pay a lot more for the same sort of thing.

Complete waste of money!
I got an opportunity to handle this object, and it only vaguely resembles a sword, There is no profile taper and a very poorly defined "edge"... All in all, unless you want a very expensove anchor for a small boat, pass this one by and save your money!!!
