A Rarity!
For those who are passionate about Doo Wop or 50's music in general, this is a great find! This CD contains a live radio broadcast hosted by Alan Freed in 1956. Besides the Count Basie Orchestra, there are many singers/groups doing live performances. Here is the track listing:Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers - Why Do Fools Fall In LoveThe Drifters - Ruby BabyOtis Williams and the Charms - Ivory TowerThe Cleftones - Little Girl of MineThe Cadillacs - SpeedoThe Chordettes - Mr. Sandman/Eddie My LoveIvory Joe Hunter - I Almost Lost My MindGene Vincent - Hound DogGene Vincent - Bee Bop a LulaLaVerne Baker - Tweedlee DeeEtta James - Dance With Me HenryThe Platters - The Magic TouchThe Platters - My PrayerClyde McPhatter - The Treasure of LoveChuck Berry - MaybelineChuck Berry - Roll Over BeethovenThe Penguins - Earth AngelBill Haley & The Comets - Rock Around The ClockPlease keep in mind that this was probably recorded from old 78 rpms, so some low scratch noises are common. But I assure you it's not something that will keep you from enjoying this CD.

Not a great album
It only contained dance music.... no romantic songs.

THE MAN WHO STARTED IT ALL
This recording is in fact a broadcast of SATURDAY NIGHT DANCE PARTY that Allan Freed did back in the Fifties on CBS Radio. The artists did their various numbers live over the radio with Allan Freed providing the introductions. For an example of Rock and Roll Radio back in those times this is a good place to start.John Walsh

ALAN FREED ROCK'N'ROLL DANCE PARTY (1956)
ALAN FREED'S 'Rock'n'Roll Dance Party' is a composite recording edited together to simulate two live radio broadcasts from Freed's 1956 CBS radio show. RADIOLA Records' source material was 23 broadcasts that had been edited for rebroadcast on Armed Forces Radio overseas. (AFRS) The original commercials - and all mention of the product (which was frequent) was edited out - CAMEL CIGARETTES - led to some rather strange results. These same 23 CBS Radio shows have been located unedited and can be dowloaded for free at RADIO ECHOES.COM. The sound quality is much better than what's offered on this compilation. I was pleased and surprised to find these shows intact because CBS pitched most of their dated after 1956 radio shows long ago and many have only survived in scratchy AFRS rebroadcasts or lo-fi home tapings. CBS did save their news broadcasts.Four years later Freed's career was in ruins because of the 1959 'Payola' scandal, which forever changed radio.
