I’ve tested 4–5 different travel routers over the past six months, and the GL.iNet GL-BE3600 (Slate 7) is by far the best. It delivers a consistently stable connection and works flawlessly with both Android and iPhones.I primarily use a travel router to stream my son’s travel baseball games and to stay connected when I’m on the road. With other travel routers, I constantly ran into connection issues—especially when cellular signals were less than ideal. Troubleshooting was frustrating, since problems could stem from all kinds of factors. For example, with TP-Link routers, I eventually discovered they had issues with USB 3.1 Gen 2 cables, despite claiming compatibility. It took weeks of trial and error (and unhelpful support) before I figured out that swapping to USB 2.0 cables resolved the problem.In contrast, GL.iNet’s support has been fantastic. They were patient, responsive, and easy to work with. While I didn’t encounter the same cable issues with this router, I did experience a few minor bugs. Their team reviewed my user logs, quickly offered workarounds, and assured me that fixes would be included in upcoming firmware updates. That level of support gave me a lot of confidence in the product.From a functionality standpoint, the external touchscreen is a game changer. Being able to switch between repeater mode and tethering mode without logging into the app makes the experience seamless. The connection itself is rock-solid—rarely drops, and when it does, it reconnects automatically within seconds.I like to thoroughly test products before committing, and this travel router has proven itself to be a keeper. The build quality is excellent, the performance is second to none, and the support exceeded my expectations.I highly recommend the Slate 7 to anyone looking for the best travel router available today.

Background: If it matters at all, I am a seasoned sr. network engineer in the aerospace and defense industry with almost 20 years experience. I’ve deployed wireless solutions from Cisco (IOS and AireOS), as well as a handful of other vendors.My thoughts on this travel router - it’s actually pretty damn good. Solid range, the MLO configuration makes aWiFi setup a breeze (single BSSID handling 2.4 and 5GHz), handles a lot of demanding flows quite well and has Adguard built in.Why did I purchase it? We were displaced from our home due to a plumbing disaster which put us into a rental for the foreseeable future. At home my wireless is a full Cisco/WLC setup with 7 APs. I needed something that would “get the job done” at a price that wasn’t ridiculous. I saw this on Amazon and figured I’d at least try it. The price point is great and supports all the devices my family has at our rental with ease. Would I recommend it or purchase it again? Absolutely. This will be part of my standard kit when I travel for work now.Cons: puzzling they advertise this as a Wifi7 device yet it has no 6GHz radio(s). Definitely a bummer/sleazy advertising, but oh well. It does get hot with the OE fan settings. These are easily changed though. The most recent firmware seems to have a possible memory leak. Over time, the memory usage seems to creep up to around 65-70%. Post reboot, it’ll hover around 50-55%. After a few days, up to 65-70%. This is even with the additional features turned off (like adguard, for example).Overall, it’s a great device that will suit 99.99% of users out there. The WiFi repeater feature that allows the router to piggyback on hotel/airport WiFi (captive portal BSSIDs) is actually pretty awesome. It works quite well and is reliable/fast.
