Nikon D300s Digital Field Guide Paperback – November 23, 2009

I bought this guide by mistake as I have a Nikon d300 not the 300s. But it appears to be as good as the D300 manual written by J.D. Thomas. Like all prosumer digital cameras the manuals are difficult to read and offer few tips to overcome the endless menu's. The manuals have tiny text and poor illustrations. These field guides are great to help you get up to speed quickly. I must say that the Nikon manual is not too bad compared to some of the others I have read. It is very complete and you can find details fairly quickly once you understand the basics of the camera. I like the field guides for getting started though and the shortcuts and tips that are not in the manual.

This book is written so that a person not that familiar with all of the buttons and functions of the camera can easily understand. It walks you through functions and settings, and teaches you some basic techniques. I am a novice at photography and upgraded from a D60. The 300s is MUCH different, and without this book, I think I would have become frustrated. I give this book 5 stars!

I have this field guide in my tablet and every once in a while i go back in and look for tips and pointers for managing settings or looks I want. My confidence (in using my D300s) has definitely improved.

It's a field guide, as the title implies. Very boring read with not much insight over what the product manual offers. Good to have around for finding hidden features but I was hoping to get some proffesional advice regard the use of the features, not just a description of them.If you have trouble reading the user manual or want a little better description of features this is a great book. I bought it used (new with shelf wear) for less than a dollar so no complaints.If you're like me and want to understand HOW to use each feature (or not) to improve your photographic prowess with the D300s then this IS NOT the book.

I recently upgraded my camera to this D300S and needed a guide book, so this one fits the bill! I am generally familiar with the Nikon DLSR line, but needed some additional clarifications on this model.

A helpful guide. Some of the red print is hard to read for an old man like me.

The Nikon 300s is the best ever link between an amateur and an "entry" professional camera. To learn the functions of this marvel,I really recommend the book "Nikon D300s Digital Field Guide"by J.Dennis Thomas.

I acquired the book in order to learn how to produce maximized from the use in the camera. In my opinion deficient examples to the use in the camera and also options to the use in the different situations.

Like a lot of other people with cameras like this I tend to leave it set on "P" so do not get the best out of it.. Nothing wrong with this!Perhaps not, but if that's what I wanted, then I should have brought a cheaper camera.. This book has introduced me to a lot of function which I never knew existed.. Yes, you could say I should have read the manual, but this is not as clear and useful as the book.. If you really know your camera, then don't bother with this.. If like me you want to know your camera better - inthe hope of getting better photographs - then, Yes, buy this and READ it

I have read this book and many others as I am changing from film to digital and these field guides explain in an easy to asimulate text every facset of the camera and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is thinking of making a purcash as it gives a through isite before ypu make an expensive purchase

Purchased on the recommendation of the Seller of my Nikon D300. It has been a great help in helping me to get to grips with my camera. Would definitely recommend this book. Written in way which makes it easy to reference any of the difficulties you are having with the camera easy to understand. Definitely a good buy.

I bought this to supplement the Nikon Manual, and I am not disapointed. It covers the subject well, and gives good examples.
