On the 1st day of using it, one of the leg brooked. can't really handle 80Lb. maybe 50-60Lb max. BTW no manual or direction included, however it was not so hard to put it together.

False Advertising- Do not buy!
This, in concept is a great deal. If it was what they advertised it as, it would be a great deal. It is not what they advertise, and it is a waste of money. For starters, the spit that is supposed to hold 88 lbs., does not. More importantly, they blatantly lie about this. When you unpack it, the instructions say that it's MAX load is 44lbs. It says NOT to put any more weight than that on it. I tried it with a 48lb pig, and the motor couldn't make a full rotation. A spit that doesn't rotate is worthless.Next major issue is its incredibly poor construction. The weld point are so flimsy that if you, after it is put together, roll it a few times, the welds start popping. This thing is great if you are going to cook a pig smaller than 40 lbs, which are not easy to find, and you don't mind making it stationary. Otherwise, its worthless. Waste of money.

lit a nice fire of hardwood lump charcoal and set my chickens ...
I am in awe...This is a well built machine and the company responded to my needs quickly.I ordered this on the 28th of June and paid extra for shipping to ensure I received it before the 4th of July. It was scheduled for the 3rd, and arrived on the 2nd. That exceeded my expectations. I opened the box and pulled out all the parts, there was only 12 parts and. Assembly was as simple as you can imagine. NO TOOLS REQUIRED! 6 wing screws and 4 screw in wheels later and it was ready to cook. I burned a fire in it on the 2nd to burn away the manufacturing residue. On the 4th of July, with a house full of guests...I stacked 3 enormous (8lbs each) chickens on the spit (I ordered 2 chicken spit forks from the company to accomodate), lit a nice fire of hardwood lump charcoal and set my chickens on. 1st thing I noticed was how solid the spit bar was. 2nd thing that impressed me was how tight and smooth the the spit motor was. There was no flopping and clunking. I started the birds on the middle section and quickly realized that I needed to lower it to the bottom rung. It does take at least two people to adjust the spit. I was nervous that the lack of a grease collector would mean lots of flare ups as the grease hit the hot coals, but my fears were quickly put to rest. The flare ups that I did have did not go high enough to touch the chicken. I then placed two grill grates over the fire and added two racks of ribs to cook. All the while, I was basking in the statements of jealousy from all my friends, who were feverently asking their collective wives if they could get one. We then settled back in the lawn chairs to sip adult beverages of choice and watch the chicken slowly turn and turn into little brown bundles of deliciousness. ***Tip***: Brine your chicken for at least 4 hours before spit roasting. This was my first attempt with the pit and I need to adjust the heat and size of fire I had made, but after 3 hours or so of roasting, we sat down to some of the best chicken I have ever made. I am waiting for the weather to cool a bit here in south Texas before I go get a wild hog to put on this spit. I might just spring for a suckling to try it out first. I am so glad I bought this thing. I will update when I do cook a hog.

Although I don't agree with Mike that this unit is "a waste of money"
OK I agree with Mike on many points of his review! Here's mine:I picked up my unit today (November 1, 2014). First off I was never provided with any tracking shipping information. Although I don't agree with Mike that this unit is "a waste of money", I will say that's the quality is generally extremely poor. My unit came in two boxes shipped separately arriving on different dates. This caused me some grief because I live in Canada and to save on shipping costs (which were ridiculous by the way) I have most of my Amazon purchases shipped to a parcel receipt store in the US. I live close to the border so within 2.5 hours I'm there in back. However, I have to pay a $5.00 handling fee for each box so it cost me two trips and $10.00. They should advertise that the shipment will come in two pieces, that way I would have waited until they both came and saved myself the gas of a second trip. When I was advised a shipment had arrived I assumed the entire item had arrived. In the advertisement photo it shows a partial grill that I thought came with the unit. A friend of mine purchased a very similar unit from a different supplier/vendor and his came with two grills to BBQ steaks, hamburgers etc. I realize this wasn't mentioned in the description portion of the ad but the photo is mis-leading. The other reviewer also mentioned that his instructions stated a maximum weight the unit could handle. My unit, (both boxes) was void of "any" instructions what-so-ever!!! It's not a difficult thing to figure out but I do have three screws left over that I have no idea where they go. For the price of this unit you would think instructions would be included. The main unit came well packed but there was damage to the inside handles that the coal tray sits on. Both were bent significantly and the rivets had come loose. Both handles were barely hanging on. A very shoddy job. I had to drill out the rivets and insert stainless steel screws and bolts...MORE costs! I can't send the unit back because shipping is a nightmare and as I mentioned I live in Canada which compounds the shipping logistics even more.I agree with the other reviewer that the weld spots are very very flimsy! The stainless steel that's used is also probably of the lowest grade. Very thin and easily bent. My house venting system is marginally thinner.I have purchase numerous items through Amazon over the last 7 years and this is the first time I've been thoroughly disappointed. Like I said previously not a complete waste of money but I would never suggest someone pay the asking price...it should be half that or less! I'm extremely disappointed with this purchase!
