An excellent guided tour of the US legal system
I listened to the superbly narrated audio version of this book and found it fascinating. The author goes through two cases, one criminal and one civil, in great detail. The cases work well to teach us about the legal system, though the government is a party in each case, and I would have liked a civil case involving two non-governmental parties to also be included. What this audiobook reinforced for me is that the legal system is an attempt to impose some formal structure and rigor - sometimes with considerable sophistication - to a social reality which is inherently complex, diverse in its particularities, laden with values, and subject to competing interests and political agendas. The result is that the legal system often works well, but sometimes gets things wrong, and can get bogged down with very cumbersome demands of time and energy.I can recommend this audiobook to any layperson interested in learning about the US legal system, and law students would likely also benefit from it.

Must read book for everyone
Evocative text that give insight into not only the process, but also the human factors, that will bring a case to the Supreme Court of the United States. Great reading for experienced jurists, new law students, or anyone with an interest in citizenship and the foundation of the government of the USA.
