Dragon Frame is a beautiful program but very complex. I recommend Stop Motion Pro. It comes in a variety of skill levels and is affordable. make sure that you purchase one of the cameras to go with it which the program supports. Check to see the list of supported cameras or you won't have a way of connecting with the program.

Q: I'm interested in making both SM and regular videos. Can this be used for basic editing as well, or should I also get something like Sony Vegas Pro 12

You should definitely invest in an actual editing suite as well...Dragonframe is primarily for stop motion alone...but you will need an editing software anyway if you plan on adding any kind of post visual effects, color grading, or puppet wire removal. Hope I helped

Q: does this software support a gopro camera connection?

This is very sophisticated software and the supported cameras are very high quality and expensive. I don't have the list in front of me but the only one I could afford was the Rebel T3 which was about $400-
