Neakasa Magic 1 Vacuum Steamer, Handheld Travel Garment Steamer for Clothes
This thing is amazing!!! I prefer to wear natural fabrics like linen, silk, and cotton. I also prefer to machine wash and hang dry most garments. This leaves me with a lot of ironing. I typically opt for a steamer instead, but you don’t get the same crispness to the finish and there’s always a few areas I can’t get perfect… until I found this rockstar of an invention! This genius makes linen look fabulous and silk like it has been dry cleaned. No more worries about the ghosts of seams showing through delicate fabrics or wrinkles getting pressed into the lower layer of fabric. The suction isolates just the portion and layer of fabric you’re working on, and the sole plate gives a smooth finish that steaming alone can’t. It’s still possible to press wrinkles into the fabric, but they come out more easily than from an iron.I would say this is a bit large to travel with, but if I had to attend a nice event I probably wouldn’t pack without it. I’m amazed at how effective it is with such a small water tank. You don’t really see the steam because of the suction, but it is definitely sufficient to release wrinkles. As I use it more I continue to get better at holding and moving the fabric around to achieve the best results, and as I get better the process gets easier, too. I almost never bothered to press linen pants before because it’s such a pain, but now it only takes 10 minutes to get that perfectly flowing goddess look and I find myself wearing them more often. Make sure you use distilled water to keep any steamer or iron running correctly for as long as possible. I’m definitely contemplating getting some as gifts for my mom and best friend for the holidays.

I frequently use steamers and ordered this unit to use for travel. So many things it did well, and so many things it didn’t! You can see in the photo, which is an after photo, that I could not get the very minimal wrinkles from being folded out of a medium weight linen dress. It did a great job on a gauzy cotton skirt, a wool voile shawl and a pair of thin cotton pants.Pros:Worked well removing minor wrinkles on thin cotton and a fine wool voile.Heated plate gives you the option of using the unit like an iron, for sharp creases, neat collars and hems.Compact design for packingEasy to fill with waterHeats up very quicklyConsDid not work well on mid weight linen. It simply doesn’t put out as much steam as my old travel steamer.Rather heavyWater tank is ridiculously small. It doesn’t hold enough water to completely steam a shirtThere is no stand so you can put the steamer down to let it cool down! Very awkward to figure out how to safely put it down while the plate is still hot.I thought for the price that this unit would have much more powerful steam than it does. While I am planning on taking it with me on an upcoming trip, I admit I’m not blown away by how well it functions, particularly because I have so much linen in my wardrobe. If you need a unit for home use, this definitely would not be it. There are much more powerful steamers with lightweight wands for doing a number of articles of clothing at a time, with large tanks that rest on the floor so you don’t have to keep refilling them.

Awesome Steamer, But Know What You're Getting Into
The media could not be loaded. I got this grey Neakasa Magic 1 Vacuum Steamer about a week ago, and for my situation, it's fantastic and easily 5 stars. But it’s definitely not going to be for everybody.I got it because I hate dragging out the whole ironing board just for one or two shirts. I actually made a video to go with this review showing the first two pieces I ever tried it on, so you can be the judge for yourself. The first was a damp dress shirt that came out ready to wear, and the next was a completely dry shirt. I'll admit, I've gotten much quicker and do an even better job now that I have the hang of it, but the video shows you how it performs right out of the box. A huge plus for me is that the clothes aren't hot like they are after using an iron, so you can wear them immediately. That's exactly how I use it and another reason it works so well for my needs. Now, for the stuff you need to know before you buy. First off, this thing has some heft to it. It’s about 900 grams (or 2 lbs) with an empty tank, so you’re going to get a bit of an arm workout going up and down your shirts. If that sounds too heavy for you, it’s going to be a problem.Second, the water tank is small. When I first started using it, I’d burn through a whole tank on just one shirt. I’ve gotten more efficient and can do two or almost three pieces now before a refill. Mine came with a spare tank, which is a total lifesaver. But if you're planning to steam a big batch of clothes, like 6 or more items, you’ll be refilling constantly. This probably isn’t the right tool for that job.You also have to think about your setup. The cord is about 6 feet (1.8m) long, so you need a spot to hang your clothes that’s close to an outlet. I had to use an extension cord to make it comfortable for me. And, just like an iron, it gets hot, so you need a safe place to set it down to cool off when you're done.So would I recommend it? Absolutely, but only to a certain type of person. If you’re like me and you just need to quickly steam a few things at a time and want to ditch the ironing board, it's awesome. But if you do big loads of laundry at once or are concerned about the weight, you might want to pass. For my needs, it's perfect.
