Excellent for slow eaters and weight loss surgery patients
Hubby and I finally got to using our InstaHot plates tonight. First off, THANK YOU for creating this product. We love them. Really. As recent WLS patients (both hubby and myself), we have to eat our meals over about 20 minutes. I take a bit longer than he does. One of my biggest pet peeves since having surgery is all my hot food is cold after about 10 minutes. I like my food to be hot while I eat it.So in come InstaHot plates. We were so thrilled to find them. I have to say, at $15 a piece, I was a bit trepidatious about the purchase. You're talking to someone who has an entire set of plates from IKEA for less than the two plates we ordered and we use those cheap plates every day. I can say, now that I've used the InstaHot plates, the $15 was a small price to pay to keep my food hot through my dinner. And that they did.The plates, as advertised, stayed cool on the rim, and the base and plate area was hot. After 20+ minutes of eating, my fish stayed hot, but was not overcooked, dry or overheated. I figured we'd try the plates with fish first, as it's very easy to overcook trout, but the plates did exactly as advertised and kept the food steadily hot throughout the meal without any further cooking or, as said, drying out.The plates are a bit heavy, and (unless I missed it) the instructions are a bit sketchy on care and cleaning. We hand washed our plates after letting them cool for a little over an hour. If you're not used to grabbing your plates by the rim, you'll have to get used to that. I had to keep telling myself to not put my hand under the plate itself. I should note, however, that the hot plates did not damage my table or where the plates were set after heating and through dinner. The quality of the plates is high and the plates are neutral.Overall, a great product. The customer service from the inventor/vendor has been excellent. I look forward to this product line expanding.

It works!
Just got my HotSmart Hot Gourmet Plate this week and tried it for the first time today. It worked beautifully! Had eggs for breakfast and hate it when they get cold before I’m finished eating. Today, they stayed wonderfully warm. Few suggestions for the manufacturer. Know this is a new product and you’re still working on it, but please increase the size and content of the instructions, They’re so tiny they’re barely readable. Also, please add more information about how to take care of the plate. Directions indicate it should not go in the dishwasher, but what about getting water on the area underneath that heats the plate? When washing by hand should that area stay away from water? And I’d really like to know more about what is inside that keeps the plate warm and how safe whatever it is to use around food. Also, the directions make it sound like the plate only is for people with disabilities and the elderly. It makes “slow eaters” sound negative. I got it specifically because I enjoy eating some things and want them to stay hot through the meal, not have to shove it down my throat before it gets cold. This seems like a very good product and I wish the manufacturer great success.

Not so good.
I hardly every give bad reviews for things because I try to be very careful in what I order and while I rely on others reviews, I discount those which seem to be ornery and rude.I ordered 4 of these plates. They came in 2 shipments. First shipment contained one plate and was shipped U.S. Mail. Box arrived in perfect shape, as was the box inside containing the plate.I noticed right away they are nearly flat with very little bowl to them as others had stated in reviews. A juicy steak would overfill the plate and run out. The photos on Amazon of the plate seems to carefully avoid revealing that.Plates are wide, but heated area is about 4 inches in diameter. Not quite large enough for a ribeye, as stated in other reviews.I heated the single plate in my 1200 watt microwave for 45 seconds, just to see how long it would retain warmth. I sat it in a wooden plate holder and within one minute, I heard a distinctive pop. When I examined it, I found that a crack had occurred in the glued on bottom of the plate (as others had stated in reviews).I immediately notified the inventor (seller) via an email reply to a warm greeting and request for my good reviews he had sent me previously when I ordered the plates. I inclosed photos of the crack. As of this writing, I have not got a reply, but will post his reply later if I get one.The second shipment arrived later that same day via UPS. Arrived like the single plate, boxes in perfect shape.I immediately opened the boxes and BEFORE heating them, examined them and found that 2 of these 3 plates were already cracked, nearly identically to the way the first had cracked. There were fingerprints on the plates and I guessed they may have been returned to the seller or Amazon, and either were not examined, or the cracks were missed by someone in quality control, and they just shipped the plates out again, to me. I made photos of those two cracks also and sent them in another email to the seller.I have all of these plates repackaged and ready for UPS to ship them back to Amazon tomorrow. Amazon is good about returns and that is probably the only reason I buy nearly solely from them. There was no option to have them replaced, only return and credit my account, so I went with that.I have to say this was probably the worst shopping choice I have ever made. We were looking for something to keep our food warm until we could eat it, especially during the winter. I think the plates would maintain heat for more than enough time to eat a nice meal. But without a replacement option, I decided to ship even the one good plate back, since there are 2 of us and I saw no since in re-ordering and going through this again. It's a great idea if it had worked and is a truly needed to keep food hot while it is being eaten. But I'd have to say, they are not worth the space they occupy due to their near flat design with no way to keep juice from running out, their small heated areas, and the apparent design flaw causing cracking. The complaint others report about the glue used to connect the heating part to the rest of the plate is exactly true. There was even glue smudges inside the plate, and it will not come off. The plates, even when washed, appeared to be plastered with what appears to be greasy fingerprints, but which are actually permanent glue smudges.I was really hoping to have found something extremely useful to us, and had told 4 couples of our friends about it and they were also excited and were planning to order some for themselves. I just emailed them and told them to hold off and keep looking for something along this line. This was an Amazon "Market Place" fulfilled order. This product will probably cost Amazon.com more in return shipping than they make fulfilling orders for it.My apologies to the seller/inventor for not being able to share a great experience with everyone, rather than my disappointing review. I gave the plates 1 star, because they area a great idea if the above problems didn't exist.

Wavy, uneven sides, glue-fingerprints. It does work however
I really want(ed) to like this product. As a strict carnivore I eat some variation of beef multiple times per day. Fatty meat is so delicious and so healthy however congealed beef fat on the plate as it cools is not attractive. So there IS a NEED for a plate that holds heat for 30 minutes. This one works, however quality control is abysmal- there are fingerprints set in glue on the bottom AND the eating surface of these plates. The plate is also "wavy", uneven, on the sides. Two out of three plates ordered arrived with big chunks of the sides broken off. Does it work? Yes. Yes it does, i just finished slowly eating a SUPER-fatty 1lb slice of prime rib and it kept the fat liquid and the meat very warm.
