Works like a champ
Works like a champ. Depending on how your pump is setup, it's a very quick job. I have threaded couplers for the inlet and outflow pipes, so it's very easy disconnect. Instructions are fine ... read them all first! I'd watched a YouTube video and ended up shearing off the impeller retaining screw ... because I didn't know it was there. After doing that, I read the next step and there is a "NOTICE" that higher hp pumps have the retaining screws. The video was of a lower hp pump, which doesn't have the screw. Anyway, trip the the hardware store for a screw extractor and I was back in business shortly. The kit came with a new retaining screw!! Pump pressure is like new again. I would recommend this product.

Doesn’t last
Worked fine when purchased. Used about 7 months. Now the seal is dry and brittle and won’t hold pressure. The seal just breaks apart.

Determin the problem first
First of all I am not a “pump guy”, just a recent retiree with too much time on my hands. I bought the Flotec FP5182 pump (2 hp thermoplastic unit) about 7 years ago from Home depot without much investigation. I didn’t have an idea as the the expected life span of a pump, but when it stopped working and the motor ran fine I thought that a rebuild kit for about sixty bucks might stretch its life for a few more years or so.The kit arrive on schedule just before the Memorial day weekend. So I had three days of frustration trying to figure it out (no tech support over the holiday). The instructions were no very clear to me as an outsider and I think one “O” ring was omitted from the kit. I never thought that finding one locally would be that great an effort, but it was so I ended up using the old one. There was also brass heat sink in the kit that my pump did not have. And it was not clear to me as to which direction to put the “shaft seal” assembly on.After opening the pump, the problem was evident. The impeller had crack off of the screw that held it the motor shaft and the screw also broke off. Easy enough to fix after I dug out the screw from the motor shaft and once I talked to Flow Tech tech support regarding the heat sink and orientation of the seal. Contacting tech support required a few attempts and about a 20 min hold time. When I put the pump back together I noticed that one of the bolts holding the motor to to the pump body would not tighten completely, but I reinstalled it on my dock anyway. It worked for about 6 + hours (2 watering cycles with about 30 sprinkler heads split between six zones) and then it stopped. The inserts for the bolts in the plastic pump housing had pulled out and the pump body was pulling away from the motor. That was probably the initial problem. Had I looked more closely I could have seen that the plastic housing around the bolts was cracked, but I didn't know what to look for at the time. The bottom line is that it would pay to determine the problem before trying the rebuild kit. I gave it a three because of the vague instructions and the missing “O” ring. Flowtec may give me less.Somewhat in defense of the Flowtec, the pump was is installed on a floating boat dock which is kind of stressful environment, although I took extended precautions to secure my intake and output PVC connections to the dock. Also, I am also not a fan of the metal collar used to hold the plastic pump halves together. I never could get it to completely stop leaking no matter how I tightened the 7/16 locking screw. It's also kind of a pain to get to.So much for plastic pumps. Since I was far into it by this time (plenty of frustration, stubborness and profanity) I overly research sprinkler pumps and ended up buying a new Red Lion cast iron pump for about $300.00 on-line.I bought it on-line because I have my own vendetta with HD. They stiffed me on a return of a garden product because I refused to give them my drivers license. None of their business (note stubborness above) and the Ever Built pumps that they currently stock have very poor reviews. Low's basically do not carry this type of pump and the pump shops in the area are quite pricy, not being in the business.Oddly enough when the Red Lion arrived it had a sticker on it indicating that it was “acceptable for indoor use only”. It would seem that a manufacture selling a “turf pump” or an “irrigation system pump” would not expect it to be an indoor application. I don't have much grass growing under my bed. Perhaps just a few dust balls. Apparently I didn't research it quite enough. But I installed it on the dock anyway rather than going through the hassle and expense of returning it. So far it is doing a good job. If it holds up the manufacturer will take the credit for building a quality product and if not, it will be the customers fault for installing it outdoors. So much for any potential warranty claims. Seems to me they left themselves plenty of wiggle room in the warranty department. Time will tell.
