The Sidhe: Wisdom from the Celtic Otherworld

Revealing Hidden Information
I like books in which the author stumbles upon hidden information and has the opportunity to reveal it to the public, so I like that Matthews encounters an Irish megalithic "passage grave" and is contacted with information by the Sidhe, an ancient race of Ireland. This book details the experience of Matthews as he learns the folklore of the country and simultaneously converses with the Sidhe, who want to warn humanity to change their course to avert the coming disaster of self-destruction. Humanity will have to integrate its spirit, heart, and mind, rather than continue isolating itself from its own inner Self. It must see itself as an ally of creation, rather than its ruler, and work in harmony with the natural world. It must acknowledge the presence of Spirit in all things. The author is a great story teller, and I was touched by the wisdom and concern in the message from the Sidhe. The story moves along lively as the author documents his reactions to each message as he receives it. The Sidhe encourage humanity to pay attention to its invisible guides available to help it raise its level of consciousness. The author provides meditation exercises for those who would like to try conversing with the Sidhe themselves. I tried the exercises and found myself quickly receiving Sidhe messages! I recommend this book to those who wish to see what communication with an invisible ancient race living on an alternate dimension would be like. Very interesting!

Brilliant - not to be taken lightly
This book is not at all to be taken lightly, nor is it for everyone as much as I would love for it to be. Whether you accept Mr. Matthews's experience as true or no - there is a fair amount of depth in the work given and done in this book. There are guided meditations and though it is a slim edition and a relatively quick read, much of the work in this book needs to be taken in doses - read in bursts. Take it in, focus/mediate/whatever you feel you can do to take the information in and put it into action. My only complaint - and the reason for the 4 stars....I'd LOVE for it to have been LONGER......Also, a note: This doesn't strike me as having been the work of John Matthews as Medium - rather as a sort of transcription of a discussion of sorts - whether astral or physical or.....I would simply love to know more.

Genuine and wise
I absolutely love this book, it calls me back to read it again and again. The Sidhe are real, and I have no doubt John Matthews interacted with them. Yes, the storyline is fictional, but the encounter between author and Sidhe is true. What a gift they share in their wise advice.

Critical Work for Us
I just finished reading the Sidhe by John Matthews. It is a small book and one that was hard for me to put down, only at several instances, I was forced to set it aside so that I could absorb all that it contained. If you have read books by John Matthews, you would be aware of the reputation he has of that of scholar. One does not get any impression that John is anything less than a credible source for information about the Celtic People. In this book, John speaks of his fantastic encounters over a period of about one month with one who says he is of the Sidhe race of beings. He records the words of those encounters almost verbatim with only a small amount of commentary. This book contains teachings and information that I believe is vital for our continued spiritual connection to the Web of Life. It is simple and gives us six things we can actively do that will deepen our awareness and gently move us along our continued evolvement with Spirit. This is a very important work and one I will not ignore. I cannot wait to begin.Deanne Quarrie November 2009

Some good advice
There isn't much of a story here, it is really a discourse. The author, who doesn't particularly care for channelers, is channeling the Sidhe. Ironically, the people who should read this book probably won't, and the people who do read it are probably already aware of most of the concepts. The best I got from it is the Great Glyph, which I intend to paint and hang up. There are also some simple recommendations for connecting with the web of creation. Personally, I found Ted Andrews book Animal Speak to be much more informative and inspiring. I applaud the author, though, for publishing an important message to humanity. His heart is in the right place.

If you are a believer
I am a practicing witch, so this book was very interesting and insightful. I believe that fairies of all shapes and sizes and functions exist. I also believe that they have removed themselves from this human world when we became too difficult/uppity/self-centered to deal with. Everything the Sidhe representative said about us is true. We think we are so superior to everything that we take and use and destroy simply because we can. We have upset the balance of this world and our place in it so severely that we and this world may never recover from it.The Sidhe are more intelligent than we are, they know who they are and what their place in existence is and they are all but immortal. If there is such a thing as a warrior Elf, the Sidhe are it. And if they decide to come back into our world and hold us accountable, who will be wise enough to stand before them?? There is more to the redemption of this world than Christianity.

One of the best real-life faery stories!
Excellent account of one man's encounter with the ancient faery race of Ireland, known as the Sidhe. Well written, intriguing, and thought provoking. It includes pictures of "the great glyph," a special symbol through which he was able to contact a member of the Sidhe and bring back their message to humanity. The book implies that anyone can use the glyph to contact the Sidhe, though the Sidhe may not always be interested in communicating with us.I only wish the book would have been longer.
