The Handbook of Sandplay Therapy

Doctor Barbara Turner's Handbook of Sandplay therapy is an excellent starting place for learning Sandplay therapy and Jungian theory; it is also a resource that even after years of study you will find you return to again and again. This is an excellent, well written, practical and comprehensive handbook. Doctor Turner is able to make difficult theoretical concepts understandable, she offers practical examples of concepts using case material and at the same time she points the way to appreciate the subtle and complex. As an example of the ability of Dr. Turner's writing to call to the reader on a deep level I will quote from the section on Content and Themes in Sandplay, "The Sand in our trays is so ancient as to be timeless. To enter the sand in the ritual of Sandplay is to engage in timelessness. To engage with the sand in a free and protected space is to exit ordinary time and space and to enter sacred time."Dr. Turner provides practical instruction and encourages the reader to go further in their study and personal development. "The Handbook of Sandplay Therapy" is the most thourgh book I have seen on Sandplay. I haver been using Sandplay in my practice for several years and have seen quite a few boks on the subject. If you are only going to purchase one book on Sandplay - This is it.

True resource on Sandplay therapy. Not an easy read though. Be prepared to take notes and think about the things you have read in here.

This book has tons of information & is very helpful as background or to formulate a basis for sandplay therapy. It is a source to refer to but it is difficult reading and is very text-like. There are other books that are easier to read and more practical but if you are serious about sandplay this is a source you should really plod through.

The way sandplay therapy is explained using all different disciplines and the way to handle it and different case studies and photographs was very interesting and helpful.

Can't beat this book for getting you started and developing your Sandplay practice

This is such a great book for any professional who uses sand in their work. Although it is a very thick book, it is easy to read and lots of examples of sand trays.
