Decent active speakers for their size
I've tried many speakers over the years, especially after getting into home theater audio a couple years ago. This is my first Edifier. I've tried many from Polk, Pioneer, AIWA, Sony, SVS, and a LOT of Klipsch. Their RP line is what I ended up mostly sticking with in my 7.1.4 setup. I have 2 pairs of RP 600M II as fronts and rears. RP 504C II center. RP 500M II side surrounds. Mid top is SVS Satellites, rear top is Klipsch RB 41 II. As it's the most similar with almost the same size woofer, both relatively the same size overall, and both selling for roughly the same around 300 dollar price when they were both new. That's the one I'll stick with for any primary comparisons.Lets start off with what I liked about these. These are nice looking speakers. I like the finish and the coppery color would have blended well with my Klipsch. They're active, IE powered speakers. So all you need is an audio source. No need for external amplification like most speakers which are passive speakers. This brings its own amp with it. I didn't bother to look up the amp ratings as it's enough to drive both speakers to levels louder than I'm comfortable listening to at. And that was without clipping or distortion. There is numerous input types including bluetooth which connected painlessly and without issues staying connected. You can fine tune the sound with both the knobs on the back as well as within the EDIFIER ConneX app. Which is intuitive and easy to use. It also lets your phone or tablet double as a remote control. The sound is these is actually pretty great in a nearfield environment and still fairly decent in a larger room. They're better than the RB 41 II overall. With it the treble is definitely on the harsh side as most Klipsch speakers outside of the RP or their top of the line offerings are known for. This on the other hand is MUCH smoother on the top end. Nothing fatiguing about it. Very neutral. I like the sound of the mids and highs with this a lot more. Bass on the other hand is one thing the 41 has on this edging it out slightly as it's a bit punchier and louder. That being said both pairs would GREATLY benefit from being paired with an actual subwoofer. The port design on these looks innovative. I can definitely feel air moving, but they can only be expected to do so much with such small cabinets and woofers and I don't know why the Klipsch does it a bit better.I tested both pairs off bluetooth with a flat EQ on the Phone, the phone app I was using, the knobs on the back of these, in the ConneX app, and finally the Fosi amp I used to run the Klipsch. It's not an ideal 1 to 1 comparison but it's the best I could do especially as it's a passive vs active speaker comparison with a speaker from a popular well known brand. Music was a mix of 90s rock on to some pop of today. On to what I don't like about these.Though I do like the looks of these, I wish they came with a grill. Though my kid is grown, I have 10 little nieces and nephews and I wouldn't dream of allowing them around any of my speakers or the 6.1 system I built for my folks without the grills on. I mean lol, tweeter covers especially might as well be a flashing neon colored buttons to little kids. And it's not that much better with the cones. When they come over the grills go on. But that's not an option here.Though there is a lot of options to fine tune the sound, they rely on you to go off and learn how to properly do it. IE if you don't already know about crossovers, EQ, etc, you have some Googling to go do to get the best out of these speakers. That being said out of the box and everything set to flat, these still already sound pretty good so it's not like one absolutely has to go off and learn about things. It would just be best to.Though the cable is decently long, I would have liked to see at least a 15ft. Although these sound best in the nearfield, they're still strong enough for a decent sized living room. Having a longer cable would make it easier to have that "magic" triangle of equal distance between each other and the main listening position.I would have liked to see a threaded insert mount in the back. Though as these are active speakers and therefor heavy for their size, there is still lots of mounts out there that use the standard 1/4"-20 screw size that could hold these just fine. If I had a way to easily ceiling mount these without drilling holes in them, they'd have replaced my RB 41.All in all I really like these speakers. Though they couldn't work out in my main 7.1.4 setup, they're still good enough to keep around in our 3 car garage that's been converted into 2 small rooms and a second family room. The TV out there only has a soundbar so these will work out well in bringing music there.

Sound Great, Flat Response.
These speakers have exceeded my expectations for this price point and size. Others have said they are not loud enough. That is not true. They have a very flat response curve and it takes much more power to drive the bass than the mid and hi frequencies. These speakers contain 6 amplifiers and are actively crossed over. 10x10 watts on the tweets. 15x15 watts on the mids. and 30x30 on the 5 inch internal bass speakers. The speakers have multiple inputs, 2 balanced, and 2 unbalanced, plus bluetooth. Yet, there is no way to switch between them. All inputs are on all the time. That is weird, because even the 139 Edifiers have switchable inputs. I would give 5 stars if not for this one thing.

Not what you except. Better speakers for the price out there.
These sound ok if you listen to music at a low volume. No way its even close to 110watts. Maybe 25x25. My Creative GigaWorks T40 Series II at 16 watts will drown these out although these have more bass yet lack volume. Not a good deal there are better sounding better performing speakers out there.

Edifier MR5 2.0 Studio Monitor Bookshelf Speakers
These are hooked up to my Echo Dot device in my garage, for some surround sound. Decent bass, better than average mids and highs. The app allows you to control a 9-band equalizer along with the 2 controls on the back of the speaker. Easy to set up, little on the larger size for garage speakers, or computer speakers. Decent clarity when adjusted correctly. The Echo Dot, by itself, has decent highs for its size but absolutely no bass. Adding these speakers to it provides some surround sound, lows and mids. Well worth it for the adjustability.Bluetooth connection works fine to adjust the equalizer, but it will connect by itself and play music from your phone if you do not disconnect it. Regardless if another device is wired to it. There are 3 light colors on the power switch, red, green and white. White is Bluetooth, green is the device itself and I have not figured out what red is yet. The instructions are small print and somewhat confusing. They do not indicate what the colors are.Overall it is very easy to set up. You get really good lows and mids from a compact size.
