All of our coasters are crafted individually by hand. The wood treated a a food grade polymer to prevent splitting and keep the bark from falling off easily Some bark loss over time is unavoidable depending on how they are used. All edges are beveled and the flat surfaces are sanded smooth to help prevent damage to furniture. Both sides are treated with food grade oil and wax conditioner which will still allow absorption from drink condensation. Occasional application of mineral oil will keep the coasters looking beautiful for years. At Vorteks Creations we know our wood and only use the finest wood from fallen trees in the beautiful Lookout Valley in Southesast Tennessee. Most of our wood is gathered from downed trees in residential areas. If we didn't harvest it, the beautiful timber would be burned or shredded and placed in a landfill. We never harm any tree in our endeavors.
