7 Stages of Marriage: Laughter, Intimacy and Passion Today, Tomorrow, Forever

Still married! Read this book a month before I got married, 8 years ago. My mother -in-law laughed at me when she saw that I was reading this book saying that I won't learn to be a good wife through a book! (Red flag # 50 of what kind of mother-in-law she was going to be! I need a different book for that one.)My husband and I have a good marriage, no it is not perfect nor would I expect it to be. The book is a guidance of what tomorrow may bring and how to communicate through it. This a good book to read every 1 to 2 years as a refresher. Even just reading it once will help. Honest I do need to read it again. What you learn the first time stays on your mind as life throws challenges at your marriage. We have been through so many stages in the past 8 years and it is nice to have a reference to turn to see if I can approach life in a better way.

This book has given some great advice on things to do to "rekindle" at every stage of marriage. We chose to do this book as a small group for the women at our church. The only thing I feel its lacking is mentioning how important it is to press into God WITH your significant other. Prayer and great friends to help you through the hard times is important.

I use this as a gift to all couples attending my marriage enrichment retreats. It allows me to have couples in all phases of married life, by referencing this book as I go along. It's highly browseable, readable, and full of distilled wisdom from research and experience. Couples find it fun to figure out what stage they are in. It is also my followup small group resource. And my new standard wedding gift.

It seemed to explain away some of the situations I could recollect from our marriage. Should have read it 45 years ago and there might have been fewer bumps along the way.
