I do not have the basic book. I bought this to read as a 3rd kyu and it shows everything Shotokan you need for black belt preparation. I would recommend for anyone learning Shotokan karate.

Good reference....

I've been practicing Shotokan for over 30 years. Most of my library is from Funakoski, Nakayama, and Nishyama. This book is good. Bible might be a little stretch.

It is really good has katas in it but that is about it

Just what the Shotokan community needed, another lackluster book. When the word "Advanced " is in the title I expect just that, a treatise that is advanced. There are at least 5 other books that cover the subject that this book does, and sorry to say, most of them are better.They are also done but people who are well known. Don't waste the money. Sorry but this is my opinion. (I am not a kid but a 60 year practioner and 3rd Dan in Shotokan)
