Sargent Art 90-4000 12x16-Inch Canvas Pad, 100% Cotton

It is a good product except that the holes don't line up with my pallette, so I sometimes end up getting paint on it, which is annoying

Recently, I decided to take up oil painting and for the past 6 months I've been reading books, watching videos on how to paint, and practicing. Obviously, when you are still in learning mode you don't want to buy large numbers of expensive canvas frames stretched over wood so I was using the far more inexpensive hard, canvas panels, which you can buy in bulk. I was having a difficult time making any progress and I think in part it was due to the inferior painting surface of the cheap canvas panels. When I used the more expensive stretched canvases I was able to see better results. Still, my work at this stage is rather crude so I hated wasting so much money on stretched canvas. Then I discovered canvas pads. I find these to be a great compromise between the hard canvas panels and fully stretched canvases. They have a great texture and the backer board in the pad is very stiff, which makes it easy to situate and control on the easel. The Sargent pads are one of my favorite brands for canvas pads. Also, if you do manage to turn out a nice painting you can glue the canvas sheet to a hard panel for framing, which is again superior to trying to work with canvas panels fixed on stiff paper. Give them a try, I think you'll enjoy this product.

It's ok for the price. I use it for small studies, some of which I might frame under glass.So they are sufficient for that purpose.

As these are being used by my senior father in a beginning art class, I really can't say much about them. He has used several from the pad. Since it is just an art class for fun, these pages are a lot better deal than buying canvas. He can practice without too much expense.

Great quality canvas pad was a steal for the price paid. I usually paint on stretched canvas but needed something less bulky for travelling. This pad was much better than I imagined it to be. I will definitely be buying this pad again.

This type of canvas pad allows for different applications in arts & crafts. It is durable and pliable; very nice texture. It comes in different sizes. Sargent is best for quality & value.

Art supplies in general keep increasing in price every year, which I suppose is to be expected as everything else is too. I use to use pre-mounted canvas panels for everything, but that has no longer become cost effective, especially for what I call "fiddle-around-work," which are pieces I have no intention of framing or selling or giving as gifts for that matter. Now keep in mind that I am not really a cheap individual or a Scrooge my any means, but I do like to watch closely where my money goes.I have been using these canvas sheets by Sargent Art for quite some time now and I must say that I have been completely satisfied with them. I use them for my acrylic work. The 12x16 sheets being reviewed here come in 10 sheet pads and the price here is quite good when you compare it with what I pay at the local art supply store.As noted in the product description, this is acid free material and does indeed have a acrylic titanium priming. I have used this stuff to frame several pictures, from time to time, and it is indeed suitable for that.I also cut this stuff down to several very small sizes as I do a lot of miniature work and this product is ideal for that purpose.For the price this is a very high quality product and extremely cost effective...you get a big bang for your buck.
