Good essential soldering kit to have
This soldering kit is a good bang for the buck. I have two other soldering the kit but this one is definitely my favorite. Two essential features that my other kits don't have = (1) Temperature Control and (2) On-off switch. Makes it so convenient not worrying that leaving this thing on and burn down my house or spend extra time trying to reheat the tip again after taking short breaks from soldering. When I first got the kit, I thought the base was missing a weld nut for the solder holder. Was about to go dig my hardware box for a nut and then found the wing nut in the pouch behind the other parts. The base of the holder had slight dent when i put it in the pouch against the solder sucker. No biggie, just have to arrange it before zipping up.Everything worked well. I used it to remove and replaced two toggle switches on the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. The solder tip melted the old solder off the toggle switch which has about 10 pins. My old solder took too long to even melt one. The solder sucker makes quick work on removing the old solder. One draw back is that the spring in the sucker is pretty stiff (high spring constant). My left thumb is sore after about and hour of using it on and off. The stiff trigger on the sucker allows it to suck up the hot solder quickly. Being an engineer, I can already think of a couple ways to increase the mechanical advantage or simple hydraulic to reduce the require trigger force. I could see people with arthritis would have trouble with the sucker but then those people probably don't do their own soldering. The solder tip is quite pointy which helps direct the heat locally and solder those small pins on the toggle switch. The kit doesn't come with any flux paste but I had some handy. The wire tube has a hole in the cover and allows you to push out one end of the solder wire and use the tube as a holder (more ergonomic). Wire length is okay (did not measure) and I use it together with my extension cord. I've always use an extension cord when soldering so I can secure the cord to the table. Solder holder has good grip. Only one thing I would improve on this design (add a LED light to the solder). For me with deteriorating eyesight, a lighted magnifying glass would be great addition for soldering work.Hope this helps. Even beginner won't have trouble using this. Just watch a couple YouTube videos to learn.

The opinion of a novice
This is the second soldering set I have owned, after I foolishly bought one from China from a brand that was not proud enough to even display their name in the listing or on the product. This set is really fantastic by comparison. The temperature control is not a wonky gimmick; it works very well for adapting to situations casually. This assortment of tools really are easily the most essential. I never used wire clippers like these before, and they really do respond differently to the hard kind of wires that are on the ends of components on a PCB better than the standard kind of wire cutters you use to clip insulated wires. That said, one tool that this set needs is wire strippers. That is not a want but I really think a need. Luckily, I think most of us probably already have a pair or two. If there is a combo set of a magnifying glass holder (those things with the alligator clips), with a wire stripper tool, then you would have a very complete tool set with just this kit and those two tools. You can spend more if you want to, but I don't see corners being cut here to make this set affordable. This is the genuine article: an affordable tool set that is manufactured to the standards you should expect. If you happen to get a defective unit, then you are in the group that helped make this affordable, just get a replacement, and thank you!

Take care not to lay it down in the wrong places while hot!

Works great, just be easy with it
Great working gun for the money. Temperature control seems pretty accurate. At its lowest setting 200, it melts 60/40 solder well. Takes a sec to get the pin hot enough to take solder, so it seems accurate. When I put it to 250, it definitely heats up the pins much quicker, almost instant, and the solder tip starts to oxidize the tin layer, so I'd say it's pretty darn accurate. I unscrewed the tip and the plastic housing below the tip, and it seems well made and fairly precise. Doesn't have that "loose" "or "wobbly" feeling that the cheap ones can have. Handle doesn't get hot at all. Realistically, I'm going to treat this like any cheap tool I get, such as harbor freight stuff. If you try to use this like a professional tool. And keep it on for an hour straight, it will probably fall apart, or stop working. If you want to use it like a high end solder gun, then go buy one for 10 times the price or more. If you want something fmto use on occasion, then get this. I turn it off with the handy on/off switch when I'm through soldering a row or pins, and ly turn it back on when I get ready to use it again. Dont just leave it on. Just like a harbor freight grinder or cordless impact. I use it gently and try not to run it for a long period of time. And they last forever. I'm sure the same is true with this. Also, the handy tool kit that comes with it is pretty nice. That screw driver is pretty nice, those tweezers, that cutter, the solder sucker, all very nice tools to have! 10/10 would recommend.

Great for beginners, intermediate
I used this to repair a 100ft heavy duty extension cable that got chopped up. I am pretty novice having only done solder a few times before, but this worked as I expected. You can see my heavy-handed soldering in the photos. I stripped each wire and soldered it together, wrapped each with e-tape then wrapped the whole thing with e-tape.I like the temperature control on the iron, you only really need 200 degrees C for most applications, as the instructions point out high temperature only makes the tip oxidize faster. The included tools all work as expected, the cutters are nice and sturdy and the sucker has a metal tube which is important when you're putting molten metal inside it. The sponge seems pretty wimpy at first, but surprisingly it expanded a good bit when wet, and it gets the job done.My only suggestions for improvement would be to include wire strippers and some heat shrink wire wraps. If you don't have wire strippers you'll need to try to use a knife or the includes snips which can be more difficult.
