Calisto Pro Bluetooth Microphone is exellent when used with Dragan Naturally Speaking!
This review is limited to the use of this microphone in connection with โDragon Naturally Speaking Version 10". My comments are as follows:The good:One of the reasons that I like this product is because you can actually talk to a real live human in technical support. My initial problem with this microphone was that I thought I could just buy the microphone without the USB Bluetooth adapter. I found out from technical support that you do need the Bluetooth adapter in order for the microphone to work properly with your computer. Because of this revelation, I had to make two separate purchases, one for the microphone, and then the second purchase for the Bluetooth adapter.Once you understand how this microphone works, it connects seamlessly to your PC. It was not so at first. The startup instructions that came with the microphone were not very informative or user-friendly. (See below)Over the years, I have worked with "wired microphones", this Bluetooth microphone works just as good with Dragon as wired microphones and maybe even a little bit better. The microphone fits over your ear securely, is very comfortable, and easy to put properly in place for dictation. This product is a lot more functional than wired microphones. I use this microphone in my CPA practice. I use it a lot for writing letters to clients and dictating to my files memorandum of various conferences. This product is great since I am not strapped to my chair, as was I using the wired microphone. I feel that I am more creative when I can pace around the office and dictate at the same time. Because of this feature, I also use the dictation software on a more frequent basis.Constructive Criticism:The instructions that came with the microphone are well below par. They generally are orientated to describe situations where this microphone would be used with one's mobile phone. The instructions are pretty much silent as it relates to using a PC with dictation software. When I read the instructions I thought I had to go online and install software from the vendors website. I was later informed by technical support that this is not necessary, this microphone will work just fine once it is "paired" with the computer. The instructions are not very clear about how to pair the microphone with one's PC. The person at technical support was very helpful in explaining to me how this worked.Summary:Overall this microphone is very good. It is very convenient to use, and is fairly accurate in transcribing to Dragon.

Excellent sound quality and comfort, but fragile
I purchased this headset to use primarily with Dragon NaturallySpeaking. It's been working wonderfully for that purpose-- recognition is good and playing back my recorded voice sounds great. It also works quite well with my iPhone as a standard BT headset. Perhaps my favorite bit is that it can bind with both the computer and the phone simultaneously-- so I can be dictating to the computer and when a call comes in, just hit the button to answer.Three downsides I've found so far. One, it's obviously a "replacement" unit, so you have to spend a fair amount to get a charger. Two, the construction is somewhat flimsy. The joint connecting the ear-loop to the body can't take much abuse, and I'm worried I'll be replacing it soon. That's fine for sitting at my desk dictating, but not good for getting thrown in my bag and jostled around. Final downside is with respect to using it with your computer: the hell of bluetooth profiles.I'm running DNS on Windows XP sp3, through VMWare on a Mac. Since the Mac has built-in bluetooth, I figured I could just use that. And it all works... almost. Turns out that neither Microsoft (XP nor Windows 7) nor Apple (in their Bootcamp drivers) supply the "headset profile" that's essential for using it for speech recognition. After many, many hours of struggle (installing several different bluetooth stacks, even reinstalling Windows 7) I finally broke down and bought a separate Bluetooth-USB dongle. That dongle included a CD with the headset profile and now everything works perfectly. But be warned if you want to use this for speech recognition: you must have the headset profile for your bluetooth adapter for it to work.In the end, I think it's a good headset, and it serves me quite well, but if I were going to schlep it around with me everywhere, I'd go for a more sturdy product.

Crackling sound, connection confusion w iPhone and Mac Snow Leopard
I wanted this for two reasons:1. To use this for voice dictation using MacSpeech Dictate international version 1.5.8 on a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard.2. To have better range and sound clarity than the $25 Motorola Bluetooth earpiece that I currently own.The end result:I returned it in favor of a wired headset (Sennheiser PC 151) and direct USB connection for dictation and have gone back to using my smaller Motorola earpiece.Pros:-The boom mic on this headset is close to your mouth, so a test recording did sound slightly better than my smaller one that just stick in your ear.-Connects to mobile phones and computers with relative ease.Cons:- I had trouble connecting it to my Mac running Snow Leopard and MacSpeech Dictate International. If I used it to make a phone call on my iPhone, I had trouble getting it to work once I reconnected to my Mac. I was connecting to the Mac directly over Bluetooth using LineIn & SoundFlower to convince MacDictate to recognize the Plantronic headset.- There was a lot of sound interference (pops and clicks) in my recorded voice as well as any audio going to the earpiece. That crackling was bothersome to listen to all day. My other ear piece does this so perhaps it is my environment. Range from my iPhone was not increased versus my Motorola earpiece.- The earpiece did not fit well for me and especially when I wore my glasses, and due to its weight would easily come dislodged.
