Not a bandaid for a "booboo", but more like a titanium supplemental to enhance.
This kit is a engine and, to some degree, a life-saver. In the past, if you stripped the treads on an aluminum block, that is it! You are done. Toss the block and start all over. Now, it appears, we have innovated and created something thats not just a bandaid to temporarily solve a problem. This is an innovation that will make the solution better than the original state if the block. Steel inserts are stronger and more capable of withstanding hi torque and heat under duress, resulting in better performance. Thats what we want!!!

Expensive but worked great
The only thing I wish had men in the kit was a guide to make sure the hole was perfectly straight, otherwise it did what it was designed to do and the car is running great once again.

Great tool
It worked perfect for fixing a stripped head bolt hole. Very well built tool and easy to use. Just take your time, do all the measurements carefully and you should have no problems with it.

works great to repair stripped Subaru headbolt threads after a failed helicoil attempt
This is not the $500 kit with the extra long drill bit and tap but the drill bit is 84.3 mm from the shank to the tip which is the exact depth that needs to be drilled in a subaru block to install a 30 mm insert. To get the tap to work I just used a chrome socket and extension so it would fit in the hole. I then used a slightly bigger drill bit and drilled 54.3 mm down to open the hole a bit more, this allowed space for the lip on the insert.

Almost ruined the engine block
The Counterbore leaves no room for cleaning metal shavings out. It also bores the hole bigger than the cylinder head locator. Also when installing the insert the tool broke all the way through because there was no stop on it

kit is nice, but i dont recommend it for Subaru head bolt holes
i got this to work on a Subaru head bolt hole, but it is very sketchy. it inserts are very thick and you have to drill the hole out huge and then use a even larger 5/8 drill to countersink and make room for the dead head on the insert. If your bad hole is one with a dowel pin this kit wont work at all as you have to drill larger than the dowel and the dowels are needed to locate the head.(luckily mine was not on a dowel pin hole) this kit isnt designed for deep recessed threads. stripped Subaru head bolts hole are not very common -ive done hundreds of Subaru headgasket jobs and this is the 1st time ive encountered striped threads (prior mechanic used junky aftermarket head bolts and then overtorqued it). this car is a high mileage toilet so if this repair fails not a big deal, but for a nice car do yourself a favor and get the $500 kit made for Subarus that has thinner inserts or replace the engine.
