better than nothing, but it does like to jump of the pin when hitting hard... tappy tap tap and it will eventually do the thing. chances are, if your hinges are 30+ years old, it's the hinge, not the bushings or pins. was for my 91 anyway. too long neglected and the holes for the bushings were wobbled out, so new parts did nothing. i used the steck tool the goes between the latch and body so i could pry the entire door back to normal. worked great, not sure i'll be replacing the weld in hinges on my $200 beater though.

Purchased this tool to replace the door hinge pin and bushings on my 1999 Chevy Blazer Trailblazer. The hinges on the S10 series vehicles are factory welded. When the bushings get worn from lack of lubrication and normal wear your repair is to replace the pins and bushings or to have a body shop replace the hinge assemblies. You can guess which is more economical. I am a retired person with a degree in Applied Science in Industrial Engineering with a specialty in automotive technology. I can tell you that the best repair most of the time is to replace the pins and bushings. If you have basic automotive mechanical knowledge, a floor jack, and some basic tools this is a simple money saving DIY repair. The only "special" tools required are this hinge pin popper and a door hinge spring compressor.This tool makes the job much simpler. Repair of both driver door hinges took 45 minutes. Make sure to tape the leading edge of the door to prevent paint damage. If the door falls off of your floor jack damage is possible to the door and any electrical wiring so be careful and take your time. A helper is a good ideal especially if it is your first time.

Tool works great. This is my second set. Had my first set for 12 years. Used it in a professional body shop environment multiple times a week. The only reason I bought a new one is because my old set got swiped by a shady new hire that only lasted two weeks.

It does work, but not quite as slick as I'd hoped.. Nice for upper pin on 99 Blazer, but on lower pin I was banging at it a bit and then broke out the air chisel with pointed bit and the popped the pin slick.. The flat bar that comes with seems to me the notch is not big enough for the pins. The "U" needs to be bigger to have helped me.. If you don't have a huge assortment of tools, I'd advise getting this for the money.. For the price, if you have an excellent assortment of tools (mine is not to shabby being former wrench that still does side jobs) for the money I'm not convinced it's worth it.

Today, February 19th, 2017 replaced the door hinge pins and bushings on my 1998 GMC K1500 Single Cab. I used this tool and the door spring compressor and bushing tool both from the same company and I was impressed about how much easier these tools made the job. Their made of a cheap metal and began to mushroom at the tip of both this tool and the bushing tool after a few hits. The tool was more suited for removing the hinge pins than reinstalling them. I would most definitely recommend these tools to the weekend warrior and the professional technition working on door hinges.

Made a job that is impossible to do, almost easy. These tools worked great in my 99 Chevy Blazer. Get some Brake Caliper grease to lube the bronze bushing when you install, and spray white lithium grease on the pins every oil change and you may not have to use these tools again.This took a six hour knuckle banging job and made it a one hour breeze. Without the pin driver there is no way to directly hit the pin with a hammer, and hitting the pin a glancing blow just does not work. Be sure to remove the retainer ring completely before starting to drive pin.

Seems like a good idea, but only works some times. I had two hinge pins to remove. One came out like it was supposed to, but the other one refused. Even after wailing on it with a 20 pound sledge hammer, it simply bounced off and the hinge pin refused to budge. There is too much spring in this tool to transmit 100% of the impact force to the pin.

For years I've been using the typical assorted tools to knock out and replace GM door hinge pins, usually with a lot of cussing, blood, and scratched paint. Since I had to replace the pins on both front doors on a new to me 96 Suburban I decided I'd give this tool a try. Best money I've spent in a while! What was usually an aggravating experience turned into about a 10 minute job on each door. Saved my sanity. Tried driving out the rusted pins from a Chev Express Van and had to stop to search google and figure out a better way. Definitely worth buying the proper tool for the job.
