Didn't have enough headphone output to be able to really enjoy the sounds. Ended up returning it. This is only so much gain on the headphone output side, same with the mic input. I was using this with an ISDR amateur radio setup.

Together with the 4tracks app it gives you the possibility to record from guitar or from guitar and mic simultaneously or record from a stereo line source. However, you can't mix guitar input into the stereo signal which would be a usable feature when recording e,g. a video with stereo sound using backing tracks in stereo. This works when the Guitar Jack is in recording mode but for the time being an external mixer must be used. I have suggested such an update to the manufacturer and they seemed interested as it probably can be done with software.The Guitar Jack 2 itself is a very impressive peace of hardware. The latency should be somewhat lower but that is only noticeable while playong, not while listening to the final recording.

Finding myself in need of a stereo line input device for recording into my iPhone 4S, a thorough net search evidenced several options. With the current offering of table-top Docks being being way too large for my application, and the smaller, less expensive guitar effect type iOs connectors frequently getting disappointed 'el cheapo' reviews, my hopes soon rested solely upon the Sonoma GuitarJack GJ2.The GJ2's body is heavy metal, has a substantial feel, and the 1/8" stereo input and output, and the 1/4" instrument input are solid and sure. The 30-pin connector attaches securely to my iPhone, gives good contact and offers no hint of accidentally coming loose. The GJ2 has a high quality pre-amp and 24bit AD/DA converter built in and offers plenty of adjustment and headroom. Sonoma offers free iOS recording software downloads on their site and the multi-featured software performs flawlessly, offering several different recording combination modes. The hardware-software combination integrates beautifully and makes this unit a joy to work with and a snap for live performance recording.The live recordings i've made with the unit are coming straight off the Mixer Board's recording outputs and absolutely sound great. For my small footprint setup, i chose the iOttie 'Easy One Touch Universal Car Mount iPhone Holder' to securely hold and mount the iPhone/GJ2 combination to my sideboard, which also contains several other live performance hardware items.When i finally upgrade to a newer generation iPhone, the 4S will become a dedicated recorder and i cannot see the GJ2-iPhone combination becoming obsolesced. This is a solid, high quality unit that lives up to its reputation and is worth every penny it cost.

But I can't believe there is no provision to power the iPad while using thuan device!It stops working once iPad battery gets to around 10% and as you know, you can spend couple hours easily trying to do some serious punch in punch out recording and studio work. So then, you have to stop everything, wait until next day after your iPad is charged up again??Another issue, I like to use a better more sophisticated Multi-track app such as the Auria. But it doesn't seem to want to work with that app.So, unless if I can find some sort of solution, I will be returning it.

Doesn't always make the connection so has to be re-seated. Also if your looking for something that will utilize the idevices own speaker, this one doesn't. I have been in the market that will allow my iPhone / ipad to play the sounds as I strum my guitar. Haven't found one yet. This will only play through the headphone jack on the device or idevices you use. Overall good product though. Make well, but needs the polishing bag it comes with. Definitely a fingerprint magnet.

This is probably a decent interface for iOS recording apps other than Garageband. I originally purchased this a year and a half ago and posted a rave review of it here (which the date shown above is when that original review was posted but this is an update dated 5/3/15). But, sometime after posting that original review, I started experiencing major issues with this when using it with Garageband. The issue is a blast of white noise will suddenly occur when using this with that app, at a startling volume level. Sonoma support hasn't ever been able to solve the issue. So, if you don't use Garageband as your recording app, this may be a very good choice for your iOS guitar tracks.

UPDATED 6-11-2015:After previously posting a (belated) review, I was inspired give contacting Sonoma's customer support a shot to see if they had any suggestions. I should have asked them sooner. They volunteered to check out my unit, so I sent it in and received a brand new one within about a week. After plugging the new one in I was ecstatic to hear great-sounding guitar sound. It turns out I had a bum unit all along.The GuitarJack is getting a little long in the tooth (e.g. has the old, pre-lightning connector), but the current price isn't bad (a lot less than what I paid) and it sounds great. I've tried it with recent iOS devices (using the lightning adapter) and haven't had any problems.

This item is perfect for plugging into iPhone or iPad and jamming. Installed the software plugged in my guitar and it was ready to go. Works great with garageband as well. Will definitely get plenty of enjoyment out of this. My only complaint is that connection is not long enough to fit iPad with case. Will need to by dock extender to avoid removing case every time I want to use this thing
