Bought this for my parents - not as sharp as the knives I have used outside india but considering the usage pattern here in india it serves well. Well balanced and easy to hold and sharp enough for most general Indian vegetarian usage - Tomatoes can be chopped easily without crushing them.

Easy to cut but they are big

This knife as delivered out of the box, was sharp but not as sharp as you may think, it couldn't comply paper cutting test nor it could slice tamatos with a smooth glide, u need to pull once to cut tomato. It was with perfect edge for our Indian moms who uses thumb support to cut but it cautioun is still required because one can easily cut his or her thumb. After u sharpen it once for 1 minute on wet sharpening stone it can glide into paper and vegetable along with meat. After the sharpening the edge retains for almost a week for a countinous gliding experience u may just need to sharpen it once a week.Overall edge retention and hardness is good for the price point. The sharpener is not at all a useful tool its just a edge straightener which may help you if you mistakenly hits a knife and gets a edge roll.
