Picasso's Trousers: A Celebration of Man and his Manhood

Accessible, memorable and fun
What a fantastic book! My Reception class (age 4-5) now freely talk about Picasso and want to do work like particular paintings. We used this as a way in to talking about art, particularly Spanish art, and this story, amongst many, was what stuck with them. It has a mixture of fun simple art and Picasso's paintings and a photo. The repeating refrain about Picasso disagreeing with convention and saying 'Yes!' was something the children really enjoyed joining in with. It gave the children some simple ways to understand why the paintings were different and interesting. After reading we created out own simple line drawing masterpieces. A lovely book that I will use in years to come.

Simply brilliant!!!!
Absolutely fantastic - now have a few books by this author and it's so refreshing to find someone who just 'gets' what it is to write for children - sensible storyline, well written and not patronising! A great way to introduce children to art and the author does this in such a lovely way - plenty of pictures of Picasso's throughout along with a very touching and poignant black and white photo at the end. Could not recommend enough - suitable for kids of all ages

It's not easy interesting 30 4/5 year olds in Art
Fab book! My children learn this book word by word. It's not easy interesting 30 4/5 year olds in Art, however this book really helped as it was very age appropriate with just the right balance of fun and facts! I love this author!

Great little book!
Have to admit I get a little tired of reading baby books to my 4 month old. This book is great - he loves the pictures and colours and I love the story and message. It's going to be a favourite for many years I can tell!!

Laugh out loud fun for my 4-year-old and educational too
Picasso's Trousers has been a hit for my 4-year-old daughter. It has repetition (she loves joining in with the "No no no, Picasso!) and humour, a surprise, slightly cheeky flap to open at the end and a mixture of Nicholas Allan's fantastic pictures and Picasso's art. The book is about Picasso's life and work and is a lovely way to introduce young children to art and Picasso...genius! I'd love to see similar books about other artists.
