Works great as a cat litter disposal can
My sister recently purchased a Genie cat litter disposal can and bags and was raving about what a wonderful innovation it is. I also have cats. so I looked into it. Although I am sure it is a good product, I was put off by the price of their bags. It is probably great for indoor litter boxes to control odor, but I keep my litter box on the outdoor covered lanai near the cat door, so odor isn't really an issue. I did like the idea of having a trash can with a lid since I am using a can without one, and I wanted a small, rectangular can for the allotted space. This can not only has a lid, they make trash bags to fit it with a drawstring (seldom found in such small bags) which will make removing the waste so much easier and less messy. And since they are only trash bags and not part of a fancy ring-top system, they are a good bit less expensive and can also be used in my bathroom trash can. I have a Simple Human trash can in my kitchen and think it is well-made, and so is this little gem. Plus, the lid stays open so you can scoop clumps easily, and it has a wide opening (unlike the Genie can) so spillage is not a problem.I know this can wasn't designed for use as a cat litter disposer, but it works just fine for me!A year has passed and my little can is still working well. I ordered a second one recently because I got a second cat and second litter box. I saw a review that said the new version doesn't have a removable liner, but I decided that this isn't a problem since I use the disposal bags that fit this can for easier and cleaner litter disposal anyway. And with the removable liner gone, the can holds more capacity, so I think it is actually a good thing. So my recommendation is to buy this can and also purchase the disposable bags that fit it and you will always have a clean trash can that works well.

Plain but sleek and super functional!
The pedal still works perfectly after several years, the lid still locks in place when necessary, as well. It neither unlocks easily, nor is it too difficult to do so. It's thick plastic, therefore easy to clean. The value for the money is good and looks sleek compared to other plastic trash cans. Overall, I would definitely recommend!

Works fine if you don't have a smart dog
Got this because my dog likes to get into the kleenex garbage in the bathroom - worked fine for a few minutes but then the dog realized how to get it open - so my objective didn't come to fruition -

Perfect for a compost bin!!
I was a bit nervous buying this trash can due to some of the reviews that I read, but it is the perfect trash can that I needed for a compost bin to live on my kitchen counter! I had spent a ton of time looking around for various solutions for compost, and for some darn reason, it has just been SO difficult to find a good 3gal trash can that works with the standard 3gal compost trash bags that almost every store sells in my area (Bed, Bath, & Beyond, Costco, grocery stores, etc). And, the dumb thing is, none of these places have a solid 3gal trash can that doesn't cost a fortune ($20+... FOR TRASH CAN!!!).For the folks who complain about how you have to buy "special" trash bags for this can -- it is not necessary. Just grab 3gal trash can liners (any kind!), and they work fine with this trash can.And to address the tipping over situation -- sure, it's a thing. If you use this can as a step-on can as intended, it's not great and tips over. However, I have this on my kitchen counter and I use my hands to operate and open the can, and works great!!!The best part of this trash can is the price is right, the trash can keeps the odors in, and the slim design is fantastic for fitting it almost anywhere for your needs! I've been so pleasantly surprised by the quality of this trash can.Cheers!

Great quality and functioning. Good luck with liners though : (
Okay, so this trash can is the ONLY... I swear only one of this shape and dimensions with a lid. Few things have I searched so long and hard for, as I have an unusually narrow space in the bathroom for a trash can. I don't know what the going rates for trash cans are, but almost $20 bucks I think is a little steep for a plastic can.PROS:- The foot petal works surprisingly well. It actually open the lid smoothly and in a sturdy fashion where you aren't thinking that it's going to break every time you step on it, and the spring mechanism is perfect so that it closes by itself... all the way... all the time.- Surprisingly, the use of the foot petal does not tip over such a small garbage can. I have tried other, even larger cans, where you step on the petal to open the lid, and if the bin is nearly empty, the whole thing falls towards you. Not this one.CONS:The inside bottom of the can has a bunch of ridges and divots covering the petal mechanisms. Rinsing the inside out regulary, or even wiping it out... not such a great option. A liner is A MUST.- "Custom Liners Available. Liner Code: R." I have a hard time justifying economically or environmentally in being informed that a small trash can requires I purchase "custom" garbage bags for optimal use. The custom liners are between 25-35 cents EACH depending on how many come in a box. That adds up for a trash can that only holds 2.5 gallons. If it were a designer trash that played a key role in the design of my bathroom and edges of trash liners were unsightly and aesthetically detracting ... perhaps. But the design alone suggests its intended to be hidden in a narrow place. I find this plain old silly. And... NONE of this information is advertised in the description of the product! Just on a label inside the lid.- I'd like to assume that most of us who line small garbage cans reuse plastic grocery bags as our first choice of trash can liners. Unfortunately, there is no real way to secure these bags to the garbage can without having the handles hang all the way out, almost halfway down the side of the outside of the can. Many people, such as myself, are willing to pay the extra $10 for a can with a lid, (as I can get this same can without a lid for about $3 bucks) but I want a lid as I don't want something to access the trash- pet, child, etc. But having handles of the garbage liner hanging out is just asking for something to grab them! And someone or something will, and your garbage will end up everywhere, as if you never had a lid to start with. You can try and tuck them in, but then the bag collapses.Frankly, I could make a case that it discourages reusing and recycling, but I'd rather make the case of how this product is anti-consumer friendly and puts a good product and respected company in poor light. Whether it's a car or a trash can, if the manufacture knows its that there might be a problem in using it effectively, and doesn't do anything about it... you lose stars.I have purchase some little adhesive clip things to secure garbage bags in place on the inside of the can. Ideally, when I purchase an item, especially something as trivial as a trash can, I don't anticipate having to add parts and engineer out design flaws. The part that errks me is that the designers seem to KNOW that this problem or inconvenience exists, as they use it as an opportunity for additional profit in the way of "custom trash liners."It disappoints me when manufactures... especially good manufactures such as Simply Human create high quality products meeting consumer needs, but then throw some catch in. Consumers have become much wiser and trying to pull old tricks such as this is no longer socially acceptable, & tarnishes a business's reputation. Transparency is the new thing!

Solid build!
Sturdy solid build design. I can see why people in the reviews said they had their cans for years. This is not thin cheap plastic walls like other brands. Well worth the price, clean looking, does not appear cheap.
