Good collection of a fondly-remembered series
While the execution could have been better, this was still a fun series -- and years later, it's nice to revisit these stories. Pablo Marco is probably better known as an inker, but his pencils here are very strong. Rich Buckler takes over as artist about halfway through the first volume. Except for a rather poor imitation of Jack Kirby on his first issue, his work here is also strong -- aided by classic Bronze Age inkers Bob Layton and Bob McCleod.

This was great.
I love it. It was color,lot of reprints only use black and white colors this one didn't. Which I am glad.

Not a Great Read, but Fun for Nostalgia's Sake
I love silver and bronze age comics. Even when they're goofy, I find them special and endearing. I was nostalgic for this title, remembering bits I read when the comics actually came out on the spinner racks. Always liked Captain Comet and wished to see him more involved in the DC universe, and I really liked the idea of a kind of corporatized anti-Justice League. Unfortunately, the actual stories don't hold up. Actually, that's not even the right way to put it. The stories just weren't very good. Cool idea, but poor execution. Still somewhat fun to see the characters from my favorite period in comics.

Talk About a trip back in time
Well, this is a collection that didn't exactly wear well with time. Several of the main characters are not the same people that the present DCU knows now, that's for sure, such as Grodd, Darkseid and Sinestro just to name a few. Artwork not too shabby but the changing roll call of artists was not helpful. Although it did return Capt. Comet to the DCU proper, the stories were a bit hokey. Comparing this to the Gail Simone Secret Six is like comparing canned soup to bouillabaise for texture and flavor. Fun to read but not a must-have unless you are an older fan that likes to look at where we were at the time in comics.

DC = Dreadfully Craptastic!
DC = Dreadfully Craptastic! It's only fitting that the cover of this volume features a garbage can, because that's where this ultimately disposable volume belongs.You should only pick this up if you intend to enjoy it on the "it's so bad, it's good" level. Goofy characters, hacky plots, wonky art and desperate scripts that feel like they were turned in seconds before the deadline by a rotating team of shifting "talents" suggesting that this wasn't a product of passion but an editorial mandate that had to be fulfilled by whichever sucker got left holding the bag that month.WATCH a super-powered gorilla forget that he has incredible psychic powers until the writer conveniently remembers! MARVEL as you see Funky Flashman depicted as a blatant Stan Lee knock-off! WITNESS veering plot turns as the shifting team of writers attempts to plaster over the idiotic mistakes that the last writer made! REEL as characters from Jack Kirby's New Gods are shamelessly misused, abused, beaten and ultimately blown up by C-list bad guys! BOGGLE as Captain Comet gets "picked up" by a hottie twenty years his junior even though (a) he can never remember her name and (b) she's clearly Star Sapphire's alter ego! Includes the first ten issues of this dreadful, dreadful series which sums up everything that was wrong in mainstream comics in the mid-1970s. ESSENTIAL READING!BONUS: Includes a black-and-white reprint of the *original version* of the first issue, which was canned by editor-in-chief Carmine Infantino for reasons that remain mysterious. Did they really think the #1 they printed was any better than this? Because they were WRONG! WRONG! WROOOOOONNNNNGGGG!!!!Special thanks to DC for not being arsed to publish the key to "Funky's Secret Code" which is used to obfuscate a few surprises in the story, and extra special thanks to the Jeff and Graeme at the Savage Critic's "Wait, What --?" podcast for convincing me to pay cash money for this abomination.That being said, I'm now looking for Volume 2 if I can find it for a price that doesn't amplify my shame for reading this frankly fantabulous trash.

DC & Gerry Conway with a classic 70's comic
I bought these comics when they came out in the 1970's. Not as good as I remembered it. Still good, but not great!

I bought this book thinking it will have the adventures of villains. This is a Captain Comet v The Secret Society of Super Villains. I didn't even know of who Captain Comet was nor do I care.

Excellent Collection.
Awesome collection, really enjoyed it. Quite sophisticated in it's day but not so bleak as to give my 8 year old nightmares when he flicked through it.

Very 1970s comic reading.
Product was shipped quickly and well packaged and protected.great value for this book tat I've been looking for for a while.Actual book review.The first couple of issues reprinted are really bad with terrible story-telling.Te book eventually found some legs when it established Captain Comet as the lead character.One complaint the reprint doesn't include the Super team family stories that make up a multi part story-lineeven though they are directly referenced. They are thrown into Volume 2.
