It took several tries for the app to connect, but after it synchronized, there were few dropouts. I appreciated that I didn't have to dig anything or run wires across the room.The image is sharp enough to clearly show movements during the day. Even though the garage doesn't have the best lighting at night, I can still use the image if I leave one little lamp on. Every time I hear something outside, I check in on my phone because it offers me some peace of mind to know what's happening.I’ve been using the motion alert setting too. It recorded a few clips of raccoons poking around near the back door, so now I know to keep the bin lid tighter. The alerts can be frequent if anything moves, but I’d rather have more info than less.It’s not the most advanced system, but for keeping an eye on a single spot like a garage, it’s been helpful and easy to maintain.

This camera is a bit fragile,it takes average pictures and videos, (it is only 2MP) andthe audio is basic lo-fi mono.Video format is MP4.It has two exposed cables, a flat black one- which is a flexible circuit board and holds the camera module, the other cable is a twisted pair for connecting a small battery outside the main unit case.That's what makes it so fragile! But for a permanent placement, it should be fine.Just be CAREFUL of the ribbon cable, it IS fragile.The unit charges in a couple of hours, but you have to plug-in the little battery they provide (this should be obvious but it is not mentioned in the manual).The product manual is too small to read easily, but it is also posted on-line in a much clearer format. To find it online, search on Google or Bing, etc, for the phone app that is named in the printed manual. (Amazon won't let me post a link or name the app in a review).The app works well. Takes a bit of fiddling with Wifi (2.4 only) and Bluetooth to set it up. But it remembers your settings.You can operate the camera with external (USB) power, from a "power bank, or from the little battery they provide. They say it lasts for about 8 hours on a charge. The app shows how much charge you have.The little battery cable is fragile, so be careful when handling it.You don't need a micro SD card to store videos and pictures unless you want to, the app allows you to store them "in the cloud", for a fee - or on your smart phone.
