Weak hardware renders the harness unusable
The media could not be loaded. I ordered this harness twice. The first harness failed immediately upon putting it on my dog at the forward most clip where the harness attaches around the dog's breast. I chalked it up to a manufacturing defect and ordered another harness exactly like it while I returned the first. The second clipped together but after just one leisurely walk with the pack completely unloaded it failed in the exact same spot. First impressions of this harness were very good. I love the look and it has durable feeling materials but the cheap hardware makes it completely worthless. It didn't function as just a regular harness, with any weight it would never hold up. I'm just glad I didn't commit to using it for a weekend or so before testing it. Now I'm out $10 for return packaging for giving this harness two tries.

Comfortable pack that works great as a harness too.
Really fits a big dog. Caesar weighs 165 lbs. It didn’t leave much room for adjustment, but it fit well. It worked for letting him carry his own water (ziplock freezer bags). He also carried his collapsible bowl and packed out his own poop. He was comfortable with it and gets exited when he sees it because he knows it’s hiking time.

Causes HORRIBLE chafing under arms
I used this backpack for my dog so that he could carry his own treats and water (approximately two standard size water bottles’ worth, but in reusable bottles) on long hikes. No crazy weight in there, especially in proportion to his 90 lb body weight. After hiking for only 2 hours, I was shocked to find that this pack left my pup’s “underarms” horribly chafed. I worried that I’d positioned the pack poorly or adjusted it improperly. After reading the instructions, ensuring that everything was put on correctly, and giving the pack another try, it began to chafe my dog again after only about 20 minutes of wear. The pack itself is functional and makes my dog look super cool, but there’s no WAY I would ever recommend this to a dog owner. Now I have a poor pup with sore, red underarms and I’m out the money I spent on this thing!

Plastic clasps don’t hold
I was not satisfied with this purchase. It seemed like a good quality hiking harness until I put it on my dog. As soon as my dog saw a squirrel and pulled the leash to go after it, the plastic clasps gave loose and he got away from me. I had to go chase him as we were out on a walk. This may be a good harness for a low energy dog, but for one that excites easily, I would not recommend it.

Very pleased, good quality, but there are TWO versions being sold by Amazon--not mentioned in the description.
Ours was different than what was shown, which explains some of the questions and reviews. I expected a pack similar to what we had borrowed--a one piece pack that slipped over the dog. What we got (as others have mentioned) was in TWO pieces. There's the bottom part that has two slim, mesh pockets on the side, and then the "handle" on top. Then you slip over the "saddlebag" portion which hash an opening in the middle, so it goes over the protruding "handle". This actually attaches to the bottom piece with a plastic closer. I contacted Outward Bound with questions and they said it's their Quick Release version. So actually, it's two harnesses in one, once you clip it in place. You could use the under layer by itself, but we use both. Now that I know, looking carefully at the photo, I can see it doesn't match ours. Our trainer recommended it for our 18 month old 82 pound hound/lab mix as he's got LOTS of energy. She had the older version (which was the style we expected) and put water bottles on each side to make him work a bit harder. It does a good job at that. He does heel better with it on. I also put his empty poop bags in it. Once the bags are "used" I carry them, as it would make the pack unbalanced. I've had no problems with it shifting at all, even when he shakes. As far as size, we got the large. Our guy is BIG and at first we thought it was too small, but we re-adjusted the straps and it fits fine. The packaging said there was also an XL, but I haven't seen it for sale anywhere, and he doesn't need it. (Some people think he's a Great Dane mix, nope) To get it off, we release the two side/bottom clips, then pull it over his head, as one piece. It's a little bit of a hassle and it may be easier to loosen the front straps, but it would be a hassle. To put it on, we slip it over his had and back and put his right foot thru, then strap him in.. We've had it about 2 weeks, and follow the advice of leaving the side zipper pockets with the bottles open slightly, to decrease the pulling on the zipper. However, there doesn't seem to be an issue. It's made much better than the picture or description shows. The top/under section of mesh, actually is quite soft, It's not really padded, but neither is it just rough mesh. He hasn't shown any discomfort from the straps or the mesh. We only use two bottles, one on each size, as our trainer tried four and it was just too heavy for him. We're not trying to weigh him down, just add a little more to his work out.

Now my pup can carry his own weight around!
Got tired of carrying water for Hobbes, so this was the perfect solution! He got used to it very quickly, and it can easily hold 2-3 16.9oz plastic water bottles on each side. Might even be able to fit 4 in each "saddle-bag". The metal ring near the handle works great to tether to a leash, it's held in place if my dog tugs to chase the occasional rabbit or squirrel. Just make sure the bags are weighed down equally and this thing will do the trick!

Love this pack, good quality.
Got a SM/MD for my 30lb dog. Adjusted the straps and it fits him perfectly. The compartments are big enough for his water bottle, food, and food containers.

Excellent for long distance!
The media could not be loaded. My girl is 51 pounds, very long legged and lean border Collie/blue heeler mix. She is super athletic, and does very long hikes with me up to 25 miles at a time. Needless to say, carrying water for both of us has been a chore on me! I was thinking a lightweight packet that doesn’t take up too much space on her body, which could hold to water bottles and food, and something that wouldn’t drive her crazy. This pack is the perfect fit. It’s very streamlined wh this pack is the perfect fit. It’s very streamlined and holds just enough for an overnight trip.My dog is still able to run around like normal, and only had to learn that she had to adjust her clearance when racing around trees! I took a little while to get the PAC adjusted perfectly, but once it got dial then, we were good to go. Absolutely cannot beat the price. It’s super well-made and durable. Definitely worth trying out!

Well made product, but not right for our dog.
Bought this for our whippet when out on walks in the countryside. Being a whippet she has a habit of spotting sheep over 300 miles away and sprinting off after them, so we wanted a harness that was comfortable for her to be on the lead for the day and had a grab handle in-case she decided to walk over a cliff. And so she can carry her own water and poop. The harness itself is well made. The buckles are all robust and chunky enough to make doing the harness up not too much of a chore, but it did take a fair bit of trial and error to balance the tightness of each one to fit properly. There was a lot of excess to some of the leads so tucked them in for the first walk and trimmed them down when we got home. The pockets are robust and close securely, so no worries of anything getting lost. But for our dog it just isnt right. Being a whippet she has big lungs and a skinny tummy, so the harness just doesnt seem to sit properly. As such it tends to flop over to one side or the other when on the lead, so when have to stop and reposition it all the time. We also found that if we attached the lead to the steel ring at the back of the harness she wanted to pull more, I assume because she didn't feel the pressure on her collar as she would normally, so in her mind she was off the lead. This isnt a flaw with the product, but worth noting if your dog isnt used to it.Overall if you're happy buying a harness like this online, and it ends up fitting, then this would be great. It's well made and I can see it giving plenty of use. We'll probably give it away, as the fits not right for our dog, and head to a local store where we can try them on.Thanks for reading. If you found this review useful please let me know.

well-made and comfortable
Our dog now carries water and food for her and our other dog on hikes and she loves her backpack. We've had problems in the past with harnesses pinching and rubbing her but this one is really adjustable and she's had no issues. She can run and leap freely while wearing this, even when carrying plenty of weight. Also she looks adorable in it. And it's very affordable compared to other options on the market! Recommend.

Great for the price, working so far
So far we haven't built up the weight but all is going well with the dog panniers. A bit of sewing and customising is required as our dog is a funny shape but so far so good. For the price they are great, will report back once they have been used in anger.EDIT: Back strap interferes with my dogs pp so back strap has to be tucked out the way which makes the pack less stable when weight is carried. Okay for carrying poo bags. I wouldn't recommend for male dogs, as it may interfere!

Perfect dogs birthday present.
This just arrived today, we've been on a short walk and my dogs tail didn't stop wagging the entire time, she loves it. I ordered it based on the measurements listed on here, it just to say tightens up enough to fit her so maybe would have been better to get a smaller one but like I said the dog loves it.
