The Very Best for Multi-Day Beard Growth of Which I Am a Charter Member
At last I have a new Braun Electric Foil Shaver to replace my aging Braun 7526 razor I've been using for way over a decade. I still use it every time I shave because it has the best ever edge trimmer for my mustache upper lip area. I can cut the beard better and straighter than any other razor I have ever owned and I currently own 6 different modern era electric shavers. I just replaced the solder tab NiMH battery for the third time a couple of months ago. I have owned and used my old Braun 7526 razor longer that any of my other razors combined. And now this wonderful new Series 5 5040 razor has arrived. This new Braun can cut multi-day old beard growth better than any other razor I have ever tried - six so far. and 4 courtesy of Amazon Vine. I am retired and I admit shaving my beard is not a priority except when I leave my house. I have two Panasonic razors and they gnaw away at long haired beards micron by micron. It just takes far too much time to wait for it to reach my skin. While my old Braun will work so much faster than my $100+ Panasonic razors on long beard hair, this new Braun 5040 is even faster than the old Braun - much faster in fact. The problem I had with the old Braun was the razor has grown dull and the replacements are outrageously expensive. So now this Braun will cut through a five day old beard like it wasn't even there plus gives a close shave. One other razor was fairly fast on 5 day old beards, but it also yanked out some hair by its roots and that hurts. So I quit using that one and just kept on using my old Braun razor. I confess. I am 73 years old now and my social security income only gets me through half the year at best, so I'm rather frugal and I don't like paying over $100 for an electric razor unless I know it is worth that kind of money. And so far, the sub $100 razors can't cut my multi-day old beard without taking forever and the ones that cost over $100 don't do any better than the Panasonic Razor that I got for $55 on sale. That Panasonic razor was the high speed version and it gives a rather close shave. That's why I kept it along with my old Braun razor. I used them as a pair to cut my beard. Now finally this Braun 5040 cuts through a long 5 day beard fast and easy plus it cuts just as close or closer than the $55 Panasonic razor. My wife did an objective evaluation. I shaved my beard on one side with my best Panasonic razor and this new Braun on the other side. She wasn't in the bathroom when I did it, so she had no idea which side was which. She kept feeling both sides in different places and said she thought the side with the Braun was definitely a closer shave, but the Panasonic side was a rather close second.Okay, that's a good objective evaluation. However, I can tell you for absolute certainty, this Braun 5040 puts that same Panasonic shaver to shame with a multi day old beard. The Panasonic razor just gnaws and gnaws and gnaws the bread away ever so slowly, but it finally gets there. It misses some longer hairs entirely. Those hairs just lay over and don't get shaved at all. Not so with this Braun razor. It cuts through a 4 or 5 day old beard with ease plus gives a close shave. Now I am still keeping my old Braun razor because the edge trimmer is still the best ever invented in shaver history for trimming the mustache above my upper lip. Even this new Braun razor is not so great for that task. It is as good as any other one, however. But not its own predecessor. Sometimes engineers get it perfect the first time and no matter how many times they change the design, it's never as good as the earlier one. The escalator mechanical design is a classic example. The mechanical design of modern escalators is still almost unchanged for way over 100 years. The motors and electronics have evolved, but not the basic mechanical design. After I trim my mustache area, I use this new Braun razor regular shaver area to flatten it out by pointing the shaver vertically against where I just trimmed. That just perfects the edge - until it starts growing again. Actually it never stops. I'm 73 now and hair seems to be growing slower on top of my head and faster in my beard, nose and ears. I wish it was the same kind of hair because I'd transplant it. My wife pulls the ear hair. She hates ear hair.Testosterone is a big factor in hair growth. Four months ago, I stopped testosterone injections because a blood test revealed not only did my testosterone increase (for only 3 days), but an estrogen like hormone went off the charts at the same time. My doctor told me to stop and get testosterone pellet implants instead, so I did - 7 pellets in my left buttock minus $865 in my wallet. My testosterone spiked from 107 (lowest normal level is 300) to an unimaginable 1500 and no female hormones. After 2 months it tapered off to 1200 - about the same as a crazed teenage boy. Even so, I'm still nowhere as good as a teenager. I can only wish. I needed more testosterone because my pretty wife is 44 years and 2 months younger than I am. Widowed and shopped worldwide for 9 years and eclipsed Trump while I was at it. And I’m not even rich. And now I need this new Braun shaver more than ever. I am sincerely appreciative to have this razor - I truly am. It is so very much better than any of my six, now seven battery powered razors, of which all but three are in this same price range. The other $100+ razors are not even close to being in this Braun Series 5 class, most especially for those of us who do not shave unless it is absolutely necessary. Or when my young wife tells me to shave - more and more often. I shave for doctor appointments where are becoming more frequent as I age - wearing out. Tomorrow is a shaving day. Two doctors in one day, but only one shave required! I wonder if they will notice how close my shave is. They will be gawking at my wife in envy instead of me.

A Good Upgrade
I used the heck out of my old Series 5. First the charging/cleaning base die. Then the battery stopped holding a charge. So for the last 2 years I've been using the shaver constantly plugged in. But it still worked and still shaved. The thing really was a workhorse. But, last year the motor started getting weaker and I'd get some pulled hairs once in a while and that just plain hurts. So I figured I would try my luck on another Series 5. And so far all is great!I've only shaved with it once, but it was as smooth as I remember my old Series 5 being when it was new. Smoother actually, because the blades now pivot side to side, which my old shaver couldn't do. The shaver is more ergonomic and fits my hand a lot better. It's lighter, so it doesn't feel as substantial, but this could be the benefit of a Li-Ion battery over the Ni-Mh in my old shaver. Time will tell! The foil feels smooth and precise, unlike some reviews I've read about it feeling scratchy or rough. There's definitely a lot of counterfeit stuff out there but I definitely got the real deal here.I'm incredibly impressed with this new one and I can't believe I used my old one so long. I'm glad I got almost 10 years of use out of it and here's to hoping I'll the same out of this new one!

Good shaver, AMAZING battery!
I’ve used Panasonic wet/dry for 20+ years. My last one was only 18 months before I bought this Braun. At the time I went from a 3 to a 4 blade Panasonic. It worked fine but the battery life was poor, even worse than the 3 blade design. So, I got this Braun. It’s big and beefy. Not so good if your on a backpack or motorcycle trip size wise. But oh my, the battery lasts a long time. I’ve checked it over the last 6 months. It has three battery status bars. I ran it until there was only one bar left. 28 days of shaving, vs. about 9 days from the Panasonic. I didn’t run it to empty but perhaps another week. The slide up trimmer also works better than the Panasonic floppy design.

Really Nice Shaver
I have been an electric razor user for 50 years. This is a replacement for a high end 12 year old Norelco that has bad gears and a NiCad battery that wont hold a charge. This shaver is worth five stars (more on that later), gives a close shave if you know how to shave with an electric razor, is not irritating to the skin and works quickly. Comfortable to hold, charges easily and fast, controls easy to use. This is a typical Braun "better" razor. I had a Braun razor before the Norelco for many years of good service, but the battery died as was usual then. Why 4 stars instead of five? The razor I received from this vendor was not as pictured, picture showed a newer model, I received the older version which was repackaged with a "new" sticker on the box. There was no packing material in the Braun Box, zero cardboard or foam, just a loose shaver (Head has fallen off), cord, bottle of oil, instructions and a brush. I have never seen any expensive item packed that way! It was totally dead, needed the full hour and fifteen minutes to charge but surprisingly. it works great, my only issue was that I wanted the three light charge display and this model only has one light that turns red when one shave is left which leaves me disappointed and returning it would not guarantee getting the pictured item. They both have the same motor and cutting head as does the "newer item" that is mentioned in the ad listing so it will not shave with any difference...…….

It's Braun quality need I say more.
I replaced my Braun Synchro I have had for 20+ years , it shaves close and smooth, I couldn't see paying $300 for a series 9 and this series 5 was right in my price range and it was a good choice for me, I got 11 shaves out of the battery at about 5-7 minutes per shave, I love it and the only thing that Braun could have done to make it better would be to make the trimmer a little wider, although the shaver doesn't work with the cord attached the lithium ion batteries should make up for it, so far I'm %100 satisfied.

Great
Great product works very well. What bugs me is the fact that you cannot use it while it is plugged in the adapter. It only works on the battery mode. Considering it's a rechargeable battery I have a feeling it won't last very long. The last version of this model was a bit different in that respect.

Very Pleased
I used to use my old electric shaver once/week max, as it did not cut closely enough so I had to use a manual razor the day after. I use this shaver almost every day. It it an excellent product. Holds a charge for a long time and gives me a sufficiently close shave. Seems like a quality product.

Satisfactorio
Ni mas ni menos que lo que indican, para piel muy sensible se queda corto el resultado...
