Don't buy the aftermarket part, buy original Mercruiser Parts.
The Mercruiser 5L motor would quit running but would start up and run rough and quit. The decision was made by a mechanic friend that came down and started the motor and ran beautifully for 10 minutes and said nothing was wrong with the engine and it runs nice but he said if it quits, call him and he would come back down. We took it out and it quit. We talked to him on the phone and came up to buy a new sensor for the distributor. Bought the REGITAR USA B0784MSV3P Ignition Senor Kit for the Mercuiser Thunderbolt I IV Distributor for $45.00 on Amazon and it said we would have it on Monday. It came Tuesday and put in the distributor and the engine did not fire at all, nothing. Took out and put the original Mercruiser back in and it fired and ran but rough and finally quit acting like it did before. I then decided to buy the original Mercruiser Part Number that was superceded to 87-892150Q02. Ordered on Wednesday and got it on Thursday and put it in and now the engine is back to normal and runs perfectly. Aftermarket part was bought on Amazon and the Mercruiser part was not. Cost on the Mercuiser part was $61.38 with free shipping. If this was not it, I would have to buy the electronic box which is over $500.00. Thankfully it was the sensor. At first, we replace the cap and rotor, then the wires were not neatly put into the cap so I was arranging them nicely and had to move the coil wire. when I tried to turn the wire in the coil, it came loose and I took it out. It turned out that the wire was broken and the insulation was burned and the spark was jumping the gap to fire the engine. I cut the bad out and put back into the cooper connector and put back into the coil thinking this was my problem and it wasn't. And them we decided to buy the aftermarket Sensor which did not work at all. Hope this helps someone. Picture shows the aftermarket I got on Amazon and the Mercruiser one that worked on the boat.

Junk parts from idoit sellers no stars you owe me $800 n the cost of 10+ hrs of my time!
This Part did not work! It was junk right from the factory it came from! I properly installed it and then replaced another part (Shift interupter) that I didnt need. I then spent $800 at the marina shop to find out this part was junk outta the box. It came with no Instructions even thou it changed how it was grounded and the other connections it expected the installer to make were shotty at best... I read someplace that amazon is now responsible for selling junk to people of this nature! well I guess we are gonna find out!

Mercruiser 4.3L Thunderbolt HEI
Worked great but was not a exact fit as far as wiring. Has an extra ground wire. Just run to ground along with ground from bottom of distibutor cap. Also be sure to remove bolt from ground on distributor or you could snap bolt that holds sensor in on left side.
