Why does the unit use an old style mini usb port and not a micro usb or type c usb port?

I wondered the same thing myself. But I suspect the design has been out for a while and they simply didn't want to make any changes. Seems to me I got my unit about three or four years ago. I agree with you it would have been a lot simpler to have one of the later USB connectors

No. That is Amazon's error. It, in actuality, weighs about 13 ounces.

It does not match my number but I will bet it is not meant to be upc code but rather a serial number
