Do you also have a messy puppy?
We have two puppies. (One is almost 5 years old and the other is almost 1. But they're forever puppies, to us.)The older one drinks water like a lady. Calm, slow, neat. The baby.. well.. she's a baby. She doesn't drink water so much as she splatters it all around the bowl in what looks like an attempt to possibly catch some of it in the air as it splashes everywhere. We love her anyway.Loving these furry babies of ours and sacrificing our carpet, though, are two different stories. In comes this plastic runner! We placed our order and patiently waited. These rolled out nicely, and here are some reasons why you SHOULD buy them:1. They're heavy duty, so they won't easily move around or get kicked up.2. The "ribbed" underside of this runner grips nicely onto whatever surface you lay it down on, so you don't have to worry about it sliding, either.3. The top side wipes down very easily, so messy pups are no match for these runners.4. They're long and wide, so you don't have to worry about the mess spilling over. The length is perfect, because we can roll up one side of it to fit whatever space we want to place it in, or possibly even cut it and use it in multiple spaces in the house (we just need the one, though, so the rolling seemed like a good idea for now).*** I haven't used these as a runner for an office space, but I can't see why it wouldn't work well for that purpose, too. The only issue that I do see (if you were to use this under your office chair), however, might be that it's a bit narrow for that purpose. For that, I'd recommend something wider, like: Flash Furniture 36'' x 48'' Carpet Chair Mat with Lip .** EDIT, after almost 2 years of use:The runner was used as I previously described, and it did wonders in saving the carpet from water and dog drool. What was even better about it is that we kept one end rolled up, then as we saw water spots or stains, we would unravel the roll a bit, cut the runner (even with my weak wrists, I was able to very easily cut right through it with regular scissors), and voila! This thing is so long to begin with, you can buy one and expect it to last you for years and years to come.If my review has helped you in any way, please let me know, or hit "Yes" under this review. Thank you! :)

but it was by no means over powering and was pretty much gone in an hour or so
I got this product so i would be able to set a carpet on top of another carpet without any glues or tapes messing up the original carpet. Product came as described, 27"x10'. There was a very slight plastic/chemical smell, but it was by no means over powering and was pretty much gone in an hour or so. Anyhoo, i have a 3'x13' hallway with light carpet, and i got a a section of darker carpet from a bigbox store. getting a section of carpet and cutting to size is much cheaper than going out and buying a runner. Unfortunately laying a carpet or runner on top of another carpet lets the top carpet slide around. I tried a few rubber pads to no avail. I did not want to use any adhesives so as to not destroy the light colored bottom carpet. Now the fun part. I DUCT TAPED the plastic runner to the under-side of the new top carpet. The smooth part of the plastic runner was taped to the bottom of the dark carpet which now had the effect of the the darker carpet having TEETH, to hold onto the light colored original carpet. This has completely stopped the top carpet from sliding even a fraction of an inch. This is PERFECT. Since the runner is plastic, it has the added advantage of protecting the light colored original carpet from spills and pet accidents, because anything that soaks thru the top carpet gets trapped by the plastic runner. The plastic runner is decently thick, doesnt feel like its cheap, doesnt feel like it will tear. Its not a stiff plastic, its quite pliable and "soft". The teeth are long enough to bite into the bottom carpet. The plastic runner does cut quite easily if you need to size it. While the plastic works great for my use, i dont think it is thick enough to be under a rolling chair.5 stars for being decently thick, pliable, not stinky and having decent sized teeth.

Measurements and Photo are a Little Off
Mine measures 26" x 11.5'. Also, the product is not exactly as pictured... cleats do not extend under the 2" edges and there's no "stripe" down the center. No problem for me, but if it matters to you, there you have it. Middle (between the two 2" edges) is rippled on top for better traction; I like that. Have only had it on the carpet for a day, but ripples from being rolled for shipment are still evident--I hope they eventually go away. Nice runner.UPDATE: Product has shrunk a bit in the 2 years I've owned & used it--it has lost 1/2" in width and 2" in length. It's still strong, thick and pliable, and stays in place on my short-pile carpet. Shipping ripples are still evident, but not too bad.

Protecting carpeted stairs from cats
The bottom of our stairs has a bend resulting in 2 triangular landings. Our cat has been clawing and damaging the carpet in that area. Using this product, I was able to cut it down, and tack it down over the carpet, folding the protector down over the edges and also tacking that down. This has worked well and it looks nice. The product is fairly sturdy, but also flexible and easy to cut with kitchen shears. It has held up to kids running up and down the stairs without ripping where I put tacks through it. I thought 10 feet would be plenty, but I'd like to do another step and the top of the stairs, too. So I'm going to order it again. I wish I had taken care of this before the cat did visible damage to the carpet.

pretty easy to cut
I have carpeting in my bedroom / closet which is very difficult to vacuum due to the layout, so naturally a lot of dust accumulated. I bought this for my closet to cover the carpet so I can just wipe up the dust as opposed to vacuuming. Works well, pretty easy to cut, and grips the carpet; my only complaint (as others have mentioned) is the smell. After two weeks the plastic smell was still going strong. I eventually put the mat outside to vent in the balcony for about 5 days. Smell is pretty much gone now. Advice to potential buyers, let the plastic air out OUTSIDE for a couple days before you use it.

I bought this to stop our cat from scratching on ...
I bought this to stop our cat from scratching on our wool rug. It is heavy enough to do that, a thick and heavy, seemingly durable vinyl that cat claws cannot puncture. However, as another review notices, it has very short cleats and so it constantly moves or shuffles around because of the traffic of people walking over it. It both bunches up and moves out of place. (It moves in the direction of the most traffic.) I have to pull it back in place multiple times a day, which is a pain. Still, I couldn't find anything else to protect the carpet. The odour faded fairly quickly.

as described, arrived within timeframe stated. Like another person I believe said it does move a bit, it does not stick well to the carpet underneath it, so I do have to rearrange it often, but it was what I was looking for and I would recommend it to others.

Decent product
This is a good runner, I just thought the material would be a bit thicker.

As Expected, Used to stop Cat from Scratching carpet.
Arrived quickly and was as expected. Cut this into pieces and used this to put over the carpet under doorways where the cat was scratching. Worked reasonably well, used double sided tape to ensure that they stayed put. One door that must be lower than the others had trouble closing over the plastic.
