A delightful book for young readers
"Spells" is a short picture book about a frog who wants to be a prince, and who unsuccessfully tries out a bunch of spells before making it (but then is ultimately foiled by the fine print). I regularly read this book to my three year old, and we both find it to be just delightful! It isn't heavy on story narration, but not every book has to be. This is a great book for engaging a young child your reading to, by asking them questions like "is this right?" or "do those match?", and allowing them to turn the pages (which are split in half) to make different combinations of animals. It does not have a strong moral or anything, but I don't think every children's book has to have a moral- some stories are just fun and engaging, and sometimes things don't work out for all of the characters (and that's alright!). The illustrations are lovely, and the book is also quite durable. We picked up a copy of this book at a library book sale, and it had definitely seen some use, but everything is holding up just fine.
